From USAA support:
Mint is not using the latest API(Application Programming Interface), so connection is unreliable.
this is referring to a conduit through which two systems can communicate to collect USAA data
USAA cannot resolve an issue from our end with how mint gathers USAA data.
Mint will need to update their application to include the changes made to usaa.com to resume collecting the your data.
Members can contact Intuit (www.intuit.com) to request more information as to when connectivity to their data will be restored.
I guess USAA forgot to mention they caused the problem when they made an unannounced change which removed the ability to use the old method for gathering credit card transactions and replaced it with an API.
The API support has not been available for Mint and other budgeting tools very long. But USAA is now throwing them under the bus, when USAA took months to admit they made a change.
FYI, USAA only changed the credit card interface that is why the other banking accounts are still working. That doesn't mean they won't make an unannounced change which would break the remaining bank accounts.
Regardless of who is at fault, this tests the abilities for company's to remain agile. They must assume that partners will be constantly changing, refactoring, updating their technololgy and full transparency and communication by all parties is a luxury. Mint has not been agile in this regard. Their platform is hugely valuable for empowering many consumers including myself to manage their complicated finances in simple and intuitive ways, but they have too many "single-points of failure" that renders their platform useless to consumers if there's a problem with connecting with only one of their major accounts. How can they work around the connectivity/blocking issue? How about a bulk csv or statement upload feature that the consumer can bypass direct connectivity and the system automatically reads in all transactions? And it needs to be more than manually entering transactions one-by-one (which btw is a show stopper for most people who have many transactions each day). Hopefully they figure it out sooner than later, because they're losing people
@valleyr1 You are correct that companies need to remain agile. But when USAA decides to implement an API which breaks all budgeting tools ability to gather credit card transactions, Mint and other budgeting tools can't be expected to be agile to that type of change without notification. Screen scraping technology which was previously used by Mint and other budgeting tools, this allowed them flexibility when companies like USAA changed the layout of the data they present. That allowed them the ability to be somewhat agile in there support of financial data interfaces. This is one of the main reasons why companies use screen scraping versus an API for data gathering, especially for applications which they have no control over. I am not saying mint is blameless in their response to to this almost 6 months old issue, but USAA was not upfront with information to other vendors nor their customers about the change to their interface. It took months for USAA to acknowledge that they even made the change. Then it took months after that for USAA to provide the necessary information to Mint to allow them to attempt to code to this new API. I know of one free budgeting tool that is now getting USAA credit card transactions.
If you are familiar with agile development, then it likely means you understand that software change control takes time and planning to implement new features, which is what is happening based on the new USAA API. This is not a change, this was a new feature that Mint did not have on their project plans.
Can you tell us the tool that is getting USAA credit card info now? Because it is really frustrating to have had this be going on for five months now! Also, not only did I lose access to current credit card transactions, but I appear to have lost all of my *historically downloaded* transactions as well. How did Mint design a product that wipes out all transactions in the account when it cannot sync any more???
Good morning, Everyone —
FWIW, as of today, 26 Feb 2023, the below two services *do connect to USAA and download all transactions, including credit card:
Monarch Money
Simplifi
Good luck —
Fidelity Full View also gets USAA credit card transactions
Thanks for the info.
i’ve had this same problem with no solution or fix yet.
Hello. I just spent 30 minutes in the chat room asking that very question. Since USAA and mint no longer communicate, if I manually add the transactions under the credit card section as pending per the instructions on mint. How can I ever update them. The customer service chat room rep didn’t seem to understand USAA visa and mint don’t communicate. I would love to have my visa card be accurate, but it appears there is no way to do that? If we add them as cash, they appear as a checking transaction. Any guidance from fellow users since I got none from the chat room? Thanks in advance.
If you add the transactions as pending, they would stay pending since they are manual transactions.
You can add them as a check, even though they are not a check in order for them to be posted. Once Mint resolves the issue, they would pull in the missing transactions for up to 90 days. @SK139
The whole point of using a product like Mint is to not have to add every transaction manually. I can use Excel if I want to do that. It's been 5-6 months since I lost the connection between my USAA credit card account and Mint. Am I supposed to have been manually entering every transaction since that time waiting/hoping for the connection to be restored?!? C'mon.
I have used this service for two years now and before then used quicken. This is terrible customer service. This needs to get fixed ASAP.

Just chatted with USAA about this. USAA is still blaming Mint for not adopting their Open Banking API.
As for other third party apps, they said Tiller and Empower are not supported, but the customer service agent did recommend:
There is a current known issue Mint is experiencing with this. You can chat with a Mint specialist, and they can set things up so once they get the issue fixed they will reach out to you via email.
