Entered all information in February but didn't file because I owed tax. Opened program on March 12th to finish. First, it installed an update to 2024.r21.027. Next, when it opened the return I had been working on the taxes owed had changed to me getting refund of approximately the same amount. It had also changed the Form 1040 to Form 1040-SR. Couldn't immediately see what had changed, so after running the analysis to check for errors, I filed the return. Later, after more research, I discovered the entries for my Social Security income had been deleted, so it was not included in total income. Any ideas other than/in addition to filing an amended return?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you already filed the return, and it was accepted, then your only option is to file an amended return. Wait until the return is processed (payment accepted or refund issued) before amending the return.
See this article and this one for more information on filing an amended return with TurboTax.
Some Mac users had previously been reporting that they couldn't enter Social Security on their 2024 return if they transferred the 2023 return information that included Social Security. Removing the transferred information resolved the issue. There may have been a fix for this issue included in the update you installed that somehow interfered with your entries.
See this help article for troubleshooting steps for Mac issues.
If you have all of the minimum system requirements, you might also try clearing your cache and cookies. If after trying all of the options mentioned you still have the same problem:

I recovered my original TT Deluxe download and the tax return I worked on in February. How can I run TT to get into that file without it installing the update that created the issue?
TurboTax should prompt you to update before any updates occur. Select no to the update request if you do not wish to update. Keep in mind that any forms that have been updated with new tax information will not be included when filing your return. If you are concerned about losing tax data when updating your software, you can save a backup file to your computer before any update downloads.
In my experience, when I click "Do not Update", it stops loading the app. It's either update or we're not going to run the program for you. Again, is there a way to avoid this?
It depends. Your Social Security income may have been deleted because it wasn't taxable to you.
Social Security income becomes taxable depending on your combined income and filing status. The IRS uses a formula to determine this. Here's an overview:
What is combined income?
Combined income = Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) + Nontaxable Interest + 50% of Your Social Security Benefits.
Here's the combined income thresholds for taxation.

Thanks, not being taxable was not the issue.
I recovered the original file, walked it thru to the filing point, then selected "amend return". Filled in the missing data and walked thru to the end and e-file worked this time. I'll leave the original post below in the event someone else has a similar problem.

I've received the refund due in my original filing, so decided to now file an amended return. After making the correct entries under Social Security I progressed thru the program to the point I clicked "e-file federal return". I then get a message that says "Unable to e-file" ... "It looks like you haven't e-filed the 1040 through Turbo Tax". That is not true, and when I click ahead to the "Check E-file Status" button it returns the message that my 2024 Return was accepted. I know I could print and mail, but much prefer to e-file. Any ideas?
