Can I complete my returns (Fed & State) without providing SS#s or TINs? Can I just enter all 9s as was suggested in a different thread for spouse SS#?

I do not plan to efile but instead would print the returns, correct/add the SS #s, and then file via physical mail.

Yes, you can enter "dummy" Social Security Number's (SSN's) or Individual Tax Identification Number's (ITIN's) in TurboTax. You must enter SSN's and ITIN's in order for Turbotax to correctly calculate tax credits and deductions.

Thanks HelenC12. But if correct calculations are assured only if SS/ITIN #s are supplied then doesn't seem to be useful. What am I missing? Btw, I certainly would expect pay for TT either upfront or before printing my returns.

The program needs a real number. It doesn't have to be your number, but it has to be legitimate. The program can detect fakes.

Thanks Coleen. Any idea what constitutes legitimate? Could I use [social security number removed] or [social security number removed] ?

Again my goal is simply to buy & use TT online w/o using my actual SS # and then add the correct SS # to the printed return before mailing it.

The numbers you posted were removed. This is a public forum and you should not be posting anyone's social security number. I am not able by looking at a number, to tell if it is legitimate or not. If it is someone's real social or ITIN, it is legitimate.

Better still, just put you own numbers in.

Well I guess I'll test this with a free TT by using a SS# that is *not* mine. Then if I seem to get through the process including the Review step, I'll purchase TT and print my returns with the wrong SS#s and correct the SS#s on the hard copy before mailing them. Again, I don't want my actual SS# in the cloud, even on Intuit's secure servers. Thanks for your comments.
