TurboTax is populating MN Form M1MA "Marriage Credit" incorrectly

TurboTax is putting an income value on line 1 for my spouse that is way too high. This results in qualifying for the Marriage Credit, but I don't think we qualify. When I try to delete form M1MA it tells me the form has been deleted but it is still there. I even tried re-starting my MN state tax and it still shows up.

Maybe you qualify for the credit, and that is why TurboTax is calculating it. ‌The Marriage Credit amount you receive is based on your income, with the maximum credit being $501 for 2024. To qualify for credit, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You are married and filing a joint return
  2. You and your spouse have taxable earned income, taxable pensions, or taxable Social Security income
  3. Your joint taxable income is at least $47,000
  4. The income of the lesser-earning spouse is at least $30,000

If after going through this information you still think that you don't qualify, reach out again and we can help you resolve your issue.

TurboTax is populating MN Form M1MA "Marriage Credit" incorrectly

I corrected a mistake where I had entered my wife's non-taxable income in two places.  Once in box 12 of her W2 and once in the Misc Income/Other Income section.  After correcting that in the federal section, I deleted my MN return and started from scratch.  When I got to the "Marriage Credit" section it told me I do not qualify, which based the 4 criterion in your message, is accurate.

Even though I double entered her non-taxable income, I still would have expected turbotax to say we don't qualify since her taxable income was under $30K.  So there still may be an issue in the software.  I've e-filed so I can no longer attempt to reproduce the issue, just wanted to provide the information I have.

Additionally, when I tried resolve the issue by deleting MN form M1MA, turbotax confirmed the form had been deleted but when I went back into the list of forms to delete, it was still there.  So there may also be another unrelated bug.

Thanks,

Dan
