I understand that the Oct 16th deadline is coming up for those with an extension who owed on their taxes. I've seen conflicting information about whether or not this is the final date that any e-file will be accepted. Some things indicate that Oct 31st will be the last date to e-file, others say it will be some date in November. Does anyone know when the last date to e-file with TurboTax Desktop will be for 2022 taxes? I am owed a refund so not concerned about late penalties or anything like that. Thank you.

The efile system has always stayed open for 5 days after the filing deadline for those rejected returns to make corrections and resubmit them. You will not be able to start a new online return after 10/16 ... you would need to use the downloaded version instead.
How long they keep the online system working after the 5 day perfection period is unknown ... last year they did keep it open until the end of October (not the norm) but as already said you can always mail in the return if efile has closed.
Now once the online system has been shut down access to the online returns will be locked out until the 2023 online program goes live sometime in early December so if you want a PDF of the return and/or the .taxfile so you can continue the return using the downloaded program then SAVE THEM NOW.
@spameater regardless of the date, it can always be paper filed.... assuming you had an extension, you have until Oct 15, 2026 to file the tax return,
I do not believe that they announce the day that the IT department shuts down efile but in the past it has worked for about a week or so after the official closing date. My guess would be that you could still efile until about Oct 23. It is left open to allow people with efile errors to file againl.

My main concern was to avoid having to paper file so I'll make sure I get it done this week. Thanks for the responses everyone.
@spameater this week? you mean by tomorrow...., right?
Since the IRS extended the tax filing deadline today for almost all California counties until November 16th, will TurboTax extend the E-filing deadline, as well?
We don't know. But they do have to close Online to get ready for 2023.
@SS-55 the best way to not worry about the cutoff date is simply complete your tax return now 🤔

This was posted about the deadline ... if you did not start a return online already you will not be able to start one now ... you will have to use one of the downloaded versions instead. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/
I just tried to efile, 11/16/2023, 9:15pm and the program said efile is closed for the season. Why did turbo tax shut off efile before the deadline?
TT can shut off the efiling anytime they choose to do so ... they do not need to follow the same date the IRS posts.
