Just downloaded TurboTax Deluxe 2023 and started my return. When "importing" data from last years return, system asked about me, my wife, and my dependents. When entering information for my youngest son (age 23), system asked how many months my son lived with me in 2023. I entered "2" (Jan+Feb). Continued entering information about son (including that I provided more than half his support). When I finished, system said congratulations, your son qualifies as a dependent. This seemed wrong since restrictions seemed to show that dependent had to live with me for at least six months. Went back in to enter data for my son, and the system had changed the "2" months I entered to "6" months. Tried to reenter "2", but system keeps changing it back to "6".
Is this a bug or a feature that I'm not aware of? BTW, "version" I'm using is 023.000.0356.

Your child doesn’t have to live with you all year. If you provided more than half of his support and he had less than $4,700 in gross income you can claim him.
Or you can claim him if he was a f ull time student for 5 months of the year.
Who can you claim

Found another article. Does a dependent have to live with you?

Thank you for the responses. Very helpful. However, I'm still puzzled as to why TurboTax continues to overwrite my "2" months lived with me to "6" months lived with me.
If my child qualifies as a dependent with only 2 months lived with me, then why is it being changed to 6 months?
Are you filing as Head of Household? Is your son disabled? Check the screen prior to the one where you enter 'months lived with me'.
Did you indicate that your son lived with anyone else (on the screen following)?
If none of this applies, try closing TurboTax, clearing your Cache and Cookies and re-open TurboTax to see if the error still shows.
