Turbotax deleted my return!

If you are using the CD/Download version, you can try to locate your tax data file by following the steps in our Help Article.

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDFs will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Like I said, the file is sitting in my tax folder one day and its gone the next day.  Shouldnt have to search for anything.  Turbo Tax purposefully deletes it.

I had my 2022 file entries deleted TWICE each time after a Windows 10 update!!!!!  THIS NEEDS FIXED TURBO TAX!

I've seen the recent posts, and I feel your frustration.

About 2 years ago, I posted that Turbo Tax deleted my tax return too.  Since then I have taken extra steps to protect my data because I still don't trust TurboTax

1) I print a paper copy of my return

2) I print a PDF copy of my return and save it to the cloud

3) I control where my TurboTax file is saved (not locally) and make sure I have a backup copy saved to a cloud drive

I'd like to recommend a solution for Intuit.  You can help fix this issue by providing users with enhanced functionality on saving files.   You could add a feature - provide an option to save a backup file to some kind of TurboTax cloud drive - it could even be a new product or way to differentiate themselves from HR Block.  They could even auto delete the files after 3 years.   Would I pay a minimal storage fee of $5 or something just to ensure sure my data doesn't get deleted due to system or software update?  Sure.

It would sure beat the frustration that exists in you tax community.
