TurboTax Bug When Filling Out Form 8283 Section A

After I enter all my non-cash charitable contributions in TurboTax, it would filling out Form 8283 Section A, by entering the items #1 through #4 into the first 8283 form, then the items #6 through #9 into the second 8283 form, and so on.  As a result, the items #5, #10... never appear in any of the completed Form 8283 by TurboTax.

Note that, the current version of Form 8283 (Rev. December 2023) allows up to four items in Section A.  Its previous version allows up to five items in Section A.  To me, this may very well be an issue that, part of TurboTax's logic has been revised to work with the new Form 8283, while another piece of TurboTax's logic is still operating under the notion of "five items per form".

I am using the desktop version of TurboTax, by the way.  Thanks.

@JotikaT2  What about those of us who unfortunately submitted our returns before discovering this error?

You will need to file an amendment:

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been submitted, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

Select your product below and follow the instructions.

@CatinaT1  I understand how to file an amendment.

But in this instance, my entries are already correct, it was an error on the forms you generated.  When I select to amend, there is nothing that needs "changing" on my end.  So do I simply click through to submit amendment, check for accuracy of Form 8283, and submit?

As a longtime user, this year has been an especially poor experience with your online software.  You should have people reaching out to individuals affected like me and streamlining the amendments.  I suspect many people may still not realize the form had such a major issue.

Yes. You will start the amendment and can go to the review. If not changes are shown, review your answers within the return to make sure they are accurate.
