Transfer online account tax info to purchase software

I have file my taxes online turbo tax and this year I bought the software. My userID and password worked but none of my previous tax information. I tried to retrieve 2018 info from my online account but it would not create a PDF just a text file. 

1. Why aren't these two turbo tax linked when I use the same account.

2. Why can't I create a PDF of my previous tax years? When I try it only creates a text file.

You are probably using an Edge web browser.  The browser changed the PDF download file to have a file extension of .txt

Rename the file extension to .pdf

You need the 2018 tax data file, which has a file extension of .tax2018, to transfer to the 2019 TurboTax desktop tax return, not the PDF.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download .tax file
