Can I claim my adult child as a dependent?

I have an adult son who lived with me in 2015.  He had some income but it was less than $3000.00. Part of the time that he lived with me he was unable to work due to an accident.  Would I be able to claim him?  On the tax form would I check the relationship as "child" or  how do I complete that part of the form?

Can I claim my adult child as a dependent?

To be a dependent as a qualifying relative, in addition to being a citizen of the US or a resident of the US, Canada or Mexico:

  • you must provide more than 1/2 of  their support,
  • they must not earn more than $4,000 in 2015 in gross income subject to tax (social security doesn't count).
  • they must not file a joint return with another
  • If not an actual relative, they must live with you all 365 days of the year, and
  • they must not be a qualifying child of another taxpayer

He would be listed as "child."

How do you enter their income, being a child dependent, but not a full time student?

Can I claim my adult child as a dependent?

You do not put a child's income on your own tax return.  You are posting to a three year old thread.  If you have other questions, please start your own new question in a new thread.
