The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing.  It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022

Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html

If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return.  This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.

If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen.  On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit.  Select the button File by Mail.  Then change the filing status of the state return.

After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing.  Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing.

It's Interesting though because I received an email The 11th that says;

The wait is over!  The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready.

-Form D-400, Individual Income Tax Return Main Form

-Form NC D-400 Sch PN, Part-Year Resident/Non Resident Schedule

-Form D-400 Sch PN-1 Other Additions and Other Deductions

Open Turbo Tax on your computer, install the updates when prompted and your forms will be automatically included.

Having trouble?  Make sure you're connected to the internet, then select Check for updates in your top TurboTax menu.

Happy filing,

Turbotax

So I'm definitely connected to the internet, and have updated the software (I am using Turbo Tax Program).  Do you think regardless of having the forms "Available" that Nc is just not allowing to file until around that date?  Any insight would be appreciated!

The TurboTax email re: North Carolina  is wrong according to the forms availability tables.  The date has been changed a couple times, and TurboTax computer likely sent out that email in error.  Many NC filers are experiencing this.

Some NC forms (including the main Form D-400) are not yet finalized and available for efiling.   Projected availability date is 2/24/2022, according to the availability tables:

State Forms Availability Table:

If you wish, you can efile the Federal return now (if all your Fed forms are available) and efile the NC state return later.  To do that, you would need to temporarily change the filing method for the state return and tell TurboTax that you intend to "mail" the state return.  Then when the state forms are available you can switch the method back to efile.

The TurboTax email was poorly worded.  It should have indicated that the forms which are available are only available for printing and mailing.

Considering that all my emails from Turbotax have been correct and no one is phishing/gathering info... Screenshot_20220214-000205_Gmail.jpg

@ kalebquinn420

That email should have optimally said that those NC state forms mentioned in that email are available now only for printing and not yet for efiling.    The projected date of availability for efiling the NC forms is 2/24/2022.    Part of the confusion is that I believe the expected date for efiled NC forms has been changed a couple of times, so the email may have gotten ahead of itself if the date was changed after the email was already in the automated system.

It is DEFINITELY a problem with the NC State - I just submitted the Federal and it went through with no issue.

Why am I receiving the following message when trying to file electronically in NC?  I have confirmed that I have all updates required.

"The Intuit Electronic Filing System is having difficulty recognizing the data in the return you are sending.  Make sure your TurboTax program is up to date.  Go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates.  If you still can't transmit your return go to www.support.turbotax.com for a solution or workaround.  In some cases you may need to file this return by mail - Tax Year 2021 transmissions are not available - TurboTax is not ready to process Tax Year 2021 for this return."
