technically if you're due a refund, you don't have to file.  but should there be an error and you actually owe, filing late will result in penalties and interest besides the taxes you owe.

Technically if you are required to file you have to file by the due date of your return, including extensions.

try the IRS tool to find free filing.

If you don't want the five dollars, apply it to next year's tax.
