I am trying to file my 2017 taxes. I work as a Dental hygienist. During 2017 I worked for two employers. One unfortunately gave me a 1099, because i worked for them as am independent contractor. The automobile I used to travel back and forth to that job I traded-in at the end of December that year. How do I report that on my return?

Are you using the 2017 Desktop program on your computer? Which version?
That is self employment income and you need to fill out schedule C for it.
Enter it under…..
Federal Taxes Tab (or Business for Home & Business)
Wages & Income
Choose Jump to Full List -or I'll choose what I work on
Then scroll way down to Business Items
Business Income and Expenses - Click the Start or Update button
yes desktop. version 3.0.80. I understand filling Schedule C. my confusion is how to fill out the amount of trade in, the original cost of trade in and how to figure out what AMT is.
Also confused on filling out form 8824.
