Tax History Report

This may be my 2nd post on this topic since the Tax History Report in TurboTax Deluxe 2024 continue to have the wrong information for Tax Year 2023.

I have NOT found anywhere to provide Feedback to Intuit on this issue other than trying here. We ALL need this fixed.

Make sure your program is updated to the latest version.  This can be done by logging into your desktop product.  Select Online in the menu on the top, and then select Check for Updates.

If that does not update your program, you can also manually update your program.

Also, make sure you are logged in using the same credentials that you used when preparing your 2023 return.  Please see this link to verify any accounts you may have under your information.

Sorry, but my TurboTax is updated every time I sign in so that's not the issue.

The issue is that the 2023 numbers are NOT correct. 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024 are correct.

I have electronic records of every tax return filed using TurboTax since 2019 so I can check the numbers easily.

Total Income, AGI, Other Itemized Deductions, Itemized Deduction Total, Taxable Income, Tax Due, Payments and Amount Owed are all wrong, some lower and some higher.

In order for us to troubleshoot this issue, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:

  1. From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Online
  2. Click Send Tax File to Agent
  3. Click Send on the message that pops up
  4. TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
  5. Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

It could be MAC dependent...but my Windows software didn't have that problem.

One thing you could check though.

1)  Open your final accepted 2023 tax file.  Make sure it's the right one and print the 5-yr History file from it..

2) THEN  do a Save-As to some unique filename....like 2023_Test_Xfer

3) close down 2023 TTX

4) then start-up a new 2024 tax file and xfer in that specially-named file from 2023.

5)  Ger a few pages in....and perhaps as far as entering one income item for 2024.

6) Then check/print the History file from that.    Now is 2023 right on both or not?

If it's right now, maybe they fixed the problem sometime after you started, but your prior transferred data was already locked into the history report.

Here is the token for the 2024 tax file: 97266357-02798008"

NOTE: It took me multiple efforts to give you the token # that TT gave me. It kept deleting what it thought was a phone number so I added a period between each number.

I am going to see if I can get you one for the 2023 tax file so you can see that actual numbers that are not showing up in the 2024 Tax History.

Tax History Report

I can't use that, but one of the experts/moderators can.

But re-enter the token...perhaps putting some periods between several of the numbers so the stupid AI doesn't think it's a telephone number.

Tax History Report

I just opened my 2023 return by double clicking on Winkelman Family.tax2023.

It opened TurboTax 2023 but it did NOT have numbers consistent with the return I filed. It did have numbers consistent with the Tax History Report, so the issue isn't the Tax History Report.

How can I fix TT23 so it has numbers from when I filed my tax return?

Can I use Apple's Time Machine to pull Winkelman Family.tax2023 from early 2024?

I just do not understand how the numbers changed!!

Tax History Report

How does that happen?

Some people start by saving their tax file in one directory...then change the directory it's saved to, so it's saved in two directories...but one of them was worked on more and the other was forgotten about.....but you happened to transfer the wrong one of the two.

_____________

So search your entire computer for files with that name, and see if you have two of them...one of which is the right one.

OR...if you backed up your final file to a USB drive..."Copy" (don't Move) that back toa  known spot on your hard drive and check it.  (I always back up my files to a USB every year just after filing)

______________

I know nothing about apple's time machine.

Tax History Report

As it turns out I keep my Tax Returns on OneDrive and they have a version history. I was able to retrieve the correct tax return from March 31, 2024 and it is consistent with the filed return.

Now, what can I do in TT2024 to retrieve the data from that return so my Tax History is correct. I presume when I started my 2024 return it pulled data from 2023, but clearly the wrong 2023.

Suggestions?

@jxwinks25

Sorry, but to do that, you have to start over with a new tax file....you can only transfer in all the correct 2023 numbers if you start a new file......and, unfortunately, re-enter all your income, deductions, credits etc.....stinks but that's the only way it works.

I know you'll hate to do it, but you need to do that, .....if the data from the wrong file brought in certain carry-over amounts...or Federal taxes assessed, or AGI, or state refund amounts.....those need to be brought in properly from the correct 2023 file in order to be represented properly in your 2024 tax returns.
