Why do i always get charged for my state return even though one state filing is free?

There are no e-file fees when using the TurboTax online editions. The state program is an additional charge when using the Deluxe or Premium online editions. Currently $39 for each state program used.

In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $25 to efile. Or you can print and mail state for free.
