Stop. Do not agree to that $40 refund processing fee to have the $25 taken out of your refund. You do not have to do that. In fact, you can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail your state return instead of e-filing it. I have been mailing state returns for years instead of e-filing them. Just print and mail the state.
But if you want to e-file it-----look very closely at the two boxes on the screen for choosing whether to take the fee from your refund... The box to the left is the one you can click to just pay the $25 using a credit or debit card to avoid the $40 extra fee.
