How do I enter a sum of numbers in a single field?

There used to be a special keyboard key combination that would pull up a little box that would start a list, that would document what each number meant, and then add up the numbers. This is what I want to do, so that I have a record of where the parts of the number on the tax return came from. Specifically, my wife and I have expenses with our doctor and with our dentist, but this year's Turbotax has just one field to enter the sum of all the numbers. How do I pull up that little box to record each of the constituent numbers?

Medical expenses should still have all the lines and categories.  Are you using the Desktop program?  To enter Medical expenses  just start typing Medical  in the search box at the top of your return and pick "medical expenses, sch a" from the drop down list.  Then click on Jump To  at the top of the list.

OR
Enter Medical under
Federal on left or top
Deductions and Credits
Then scroll way down to Medical
Then Medical Expenses - click Start or Update

How do I enter a sum of numbers in a single field?

Yes. I did that, with the desktop Premier program. I got to a single entry box for all the expenses associated with doctors, dentists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, etc. I wanted to document which person had expenses with which doctor.

In prior years, I have done this with automobile expenses (which car), and in other places. I just can't remember how I got TurboTax to do it, this time in this place.

Anyone have any ideas how to bring up that little box, to document these details?

Assuming that you are using rthe CD/download version on yiur Mac:

Some fields (not all) have "Supporting Details".   There are 3 ways to open the box:
1) Double click in the box,
2) Use keys "command i" (command eye),
3 Top menu bar -> Edit -> Supporting Details.

If the entry box supports it then the details window will appear and the box will be highlighted.

I had tried the double-click; it didn't work. The "command-i" was just what I was looking for. Many thanks.
