Social Security Turbo Tax Error

If so many users are having an issue with Social Security income not being taxed, why didn't Turbo Tax notify us that there was an issue?  I would love to see how the question appeared before your update, if it was even there.  If the question was there and not easily seen, why in the world would it default to a yes?  If a question is required, it shouldn't default to ANYTHING, it should be flagged and an answer should be required.   The update clearly includes changes that are designed to clear up the issue, but still no responsibility taken by Intuit!Screenshot 2026-05-11 at 3.30.28 PM.png

Your screenshot didn’t post right.   I have 2 screenshots from my 2025 Windows Home & Business Desktop program.   An early one and one after an April update.

The question was always there. It's the next screen after you enter your SSA-1099. See the first screen shot in VolvoGirl's post above. It's a full screen. You can't miss it.

There is no default. It will not let you continue until you select an answer. However, you could jump to another topic by clicking a menu or tab without answering the question. If you do that it's treated it as if you answered No, so in effect the default is No. The only way you can get zero taxable Social Security benefits on 1040 line 6b is by clicking Yes on the screen with the question.

A lot of people rush through the questions without reading carefully. I suspect that some people see "Are you a U.S. citizen" and click Yes without reading the rest of the question.
