The first line says: "Social Security/Railroad Retirement Benefits received in 2022....." followed by a box to be checked or not.
Does this mean "Did I receive SS benefits in 2022"? or
Does it mean "Are there 2022 benefits included in 2023 benefits"?

It means that you reported SS benefits on the 2022 tax return.
@VolvoGirl That is not a question in TurboTax. It is on the Social Security Benefits Worksheet at the very top of the worksheet. It is pre-checked by the TurboTax program if you transferred the 2022 tax data file to the 2023 return and you had SS benefits reported on the 2022 return.

On both the Online and Desktop/CD software, I do not see that question.
I see. "Did you receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits in 2023?"
Where do you see that question?

@zenorini Can you post a screen shot of that page that says 2022? It might be a typo on the screen. Are you using the Online version or the Desktop program. I can't find a screen asking that either.

OK I see it now in my return. Why does it want to know that? Does that affect anything?
Can't think of any reason it is used or why it is even needed.
I'm using a downloaded version on my desktop computer.
The name of the worksheet is exactly the same as the subject above.
In the top left corner of the worksheet is printed: Form 1040 Line 6
The statement in question is the first line below "Names Shown of Return"
I checked the 2022 program and there the year mentioned is 2021; same situation.
I don't know how to do a screen shot. If you tell me how I'll give it a try.
