Should I be charged a self employment tax on farm crops I sold when I did not actively participate in the operation of a farm?

I receive a percentage of the crops grown for the tenants use of the land.

No, receiving a percentage of crops grown is not self-employment if you did not participate.

Report this on Form 4835 not Schedule F.

  1. Tap Federal in the left column,
  2. Tap Wages & Income
  3. Scroll down to Rentals, Royalties and Farm, and select Show more
  4. Select Farm Income and Farm Rental
  5. On "Did you have any farm or farm rental income in 2022?" tap Yes
  6. On "Tell Us About Your Farm or Farm Rental Income," select I received a share of the production from my farm rental
  7. Select I did not materially participate in my farm rental, then Continue
  8. Complete the rest of the screens
