Senior deduction

The senior deduction in Turbotax Home and Business for 2025 still does not have the correct deduction as of today Feb 27, 2026. When is it going to be corrected?

Senior deduction

Hi, I just double-checked in the TurboTax Home and Business edition, and the enhanced senior deduction is working correctly for 2025. This is calculated automatically based on qualifying DOB's (before January 2, 1961) entered for the taxpayer / spouse in the "Personal Info" section.

In your tax return viewable PDF copy, search for a form titled Schedule 1-A Additional Deductions. The total on Schedule 1-A Line 37 is your enhanced senior deduction for the year. The sum of these additional deductions (on Line 38) should flow to Line 13b on your federal Form 1040 or 1040-SR (not the standard deduction).

To see or print a PDF of your tax return, select your product and follow the instructions.

TurboTax Online

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select Continue or Start on Tax Home to enter your return.
  3. Select Tax Tools from the menu.
  4. Select Print Center, choose Print, save, or preview this year's return, and follow the instructions.
  • If you haven't yet paid your TurboTax Online fee (or registered, if you're using a free version), you'll need to do so before you can save the PDF.

TurboTax Desktop

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select File.
  3. Select Print/Save for Your Records.
  4. Choose to either Save As PDF or Preview Print Copy.

Senior deduction

I filed from the Home & Business Desktop program.  It was right, no problems. Where are you looking?

For 2025 the standard deduction amounts on 1040/1040SR line 12e are:

Single 15,750 + 2,000 for 65 and over or blind (17,750)

HOH 23,625 + 2,000 for 65 and over or blind

Joint 31,500 +  1,600 for each 65 and over or blind (both 34,700)

Married filing Separate 15,750+ 1,600 for 65 and over or blind

Plus there is a new Senior Deduction of $6,000 on line 13b for each spouse 65 or older if you qualify.

For Single the deduction starts to phase out at 75,000 and maxes out at 175,000
For Joint the deductions starts to phase out at 150,000 and maxes out at 250,000
If you are married you have to file a Joint return
