ONE OF THE REASONS IS NO TAXABLE INCOME BUT I HAD TAXES WITHHELD FROM UNEMPLOYMENT.
You may have had taxes withheld from your unemployment, but that is not the same as having taxable income.
You may have taxable income if you unemployment benefits were more than $10,200, and that amount plus any other income is greater than your standard deduction ($12,400). If this is not the case, you won't have any taxable income and will have to print and mail in your return to get back the taxes withheld.
As a workaround, you could enter $1 to either other income or interest in order to efile.
Hi,
I have the same problem with E-filing my unemployment tax withheld. Where do you go to enter $1 to either other income or interest?
Thanks.
Make up a fake 1099Int.
Enter a 1099-Int under
Federal
Wages & Income
Interest and Dividends
Interest on 1099INT - Click the Start or Update button
Put the interest amount in box 1
What do we put in the first box where it says "Received from"? Any bank? Or like name it Unemployment?
Enter a bank name. $1 won't matter.
Putting just $1 in Box 1 doesn't work because it says that the tax withheld is greater than or equal to $1. Am I supposed to add $1 to whatever my tax withheld was and then enter that into Box 1?
That could be a problem. You may have to print and mail it. I've only seen that asked once or twice before. I didn't think that should matter. You only entered the withholding on the 1099G unemployment entry screen, right?
Yes, only the 1099G screen.
