Rejected

My 2019 state and federal taxes were rejected several times and I never received notice about them. Also never received notice about deadline being October 15th. I don’t know how to fix this on the website. Please help.

Check your spam folder.

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

Whatever the reason for the rejection, it is too late to e-file the 2019 return now.  E-filing is closed permanently for 2019 returns.  You have to print sign and mail your 2019 return.  If the rejection was for incorrect AGI, that no longer matters since you only needed that for e-filing.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

Before you filed you had to verify your email address for this very reason ... when the code was sent to your email if it went to the spam folder you should have said it was not spam so future emails would be seen.

If you completed and filed a 2019 Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, the filing date was extended to October 15, 2020.

If you had taxes owed the taxes had to be paid on or before July 15, 2020 to avoid a failure to pay penalty.

If you were receiving a tax refund or had no taxes owed there is no penalty for filing after the due date of the tax return.

If your email address was correct for your TurboTax account you would have received emails for the rejected tax returns.  If not in your email account, check the spam or junk mail folders on your account.

A 2019 tax return can no longer be e-filed using TurboTax, the tax return can only be printed and mailed to the IRS and to your State.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

Print, sign, date and mail the federal tax return to the IRS and the state tax return to your state.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.

Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

Go to your state tax authority website for the mailing address for your state tax return.
