Rejected Returns

My taxes got rejected because the other parent of my kids put their SSN on his return even though he specified that he was not claiming them as dependents.  Later turbo tax specialist helped him to amend his return and take the kids off his tax return. My returns still keep rejecting. What should I do in this situation?

Sorry but once a ssn has been entered into the IRS you can't efile it again.   Not even if he amends   You have to print and mail your return this year.

How to mail a return from the Online version

How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online?

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

You cannot efile and claim the children even though the other return was corrected.

The IRS computer will not be updated until next season.

You have two choices:

Claim the dependents and paper-file (mail the return)

The IRS is behind processing paper returns.

E-file without claiming the dependents if you will get a refund.

You will be able to efile if you are not claiming the children

Next amend the return and claim the children for the additional refund

The amended return will need to be paper-filed and mailed.
