i had the same error about the agi.... if u didnt file last year put 0 if you did the gross income amount i think is what you need to put
I think this is related to the death of the 2018 joint file Primary Taxpayer. Turbo tax did everything behind the scenes after i put them in as deceased. Never had this issue in years of using turbo tax.
I followed the instructions and resent per Turbo Tax.
If I have to manually file I demand a refund of the State e-filing fee ($19.99) I paid and can't use because of TurboTax issues.
Note to Intuit: Fix this fast or I will never use your product again and tell all my friends in person and social media!!!!!
@joekapp01 Did your spouse pass away in 2018? If so, then you should not have transferred the 2018 tax data to the 2019 tax return since it transferred the tax data for your spouse. In 2019, assuming that you have not remarried, you are either filing as Single or if you have a child as a dependent, a Qualifying Widow(er).
Is your e-filed tax return being rejected for the 2018 AGI?
No, Spouse passed away in January 2020. No issues with 2019 return
It said that or the PIN did not match. I transferred data from 2018 to 2019 and labeled spouse with deceased date. TT did everything behind the scenes and OKayed me to file
Oh the deceased spouse was the primary on the 2018 return
Just rejected the 2nd time following TT instructions

What is your filing status in 2019? You should only be entering the 2018 AGI for yourself on the 2019 tax return.
Is the rejection notice for the deceased spouse?
Apparently the AGI or self-select PIN that was entered does not match the numbers in the IRS database.
Please see this TurboTax Help.
I also received this code -- - IND-031-04 - The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records.
I confirmed the correct AGI for 2018 was used (I got the tax transcript from the IRS website). Resubmitted -- same error. My spouse also (like another person I saw asking about this error) died in 2019. The error refers to the primary taxpayer. My spouse was listed first. I indicated the death, and at filing TurboTax just has me signing.
The PIN was auto-populated by TurboTax for me. I don't have a record from last year to confirm it was correctly brought forward (filed last year with Turbotax).
So I am not sure what to do next -- is the error because the IRS is expecting an AGI or PIN for my dead spouse? Is the error something else? I would just mail it, by NYS require I efile. I can't efile for the state (within TurboTax) until I efile the Federal.
Any help will be appreciated? Thank you.
@SRReisch The IRS will continue to reject the e-filed tax return even with a correct 2018 AGI due to either the Primary or Secondary taxpayer being deceased on a 2019 tax return with Married Filing Jointly status.
Your only option is to print and mail the tax return.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...
IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/list-of-available-free-file-fillable-forms
Decedent Returns- The program might not efile a decedent return. If the Primary or Secondary taxpayer on the return is a decedent, it may be necessary to mail in the return.
Ok, thank you for clarifying that. So I need to mail a hardcopy to the IRS. But NYS requires (if I use software like TurboTax) to efile. Can I do that -- mail to IRS, efile to NYS? How do I do that? Turbotax won't let me proceed if I indicate those options.

You will have to print and mail the NY state tax return also. A state return cannot be e-filed using the TurboTax software if the federal tax return is not e-filed.
New York allows mailed tax returns from paid tax preparers if the tax program being used does not support electronic filing. But your tax return is self-prepared so does not fall under the New York tax preparer mandate.
