I purchased the federal and state key from Costco. Why am I being charged another $40 at the end? It seems a bit shady not to disclose any other fees up front.

Sorry what you bought was one free state PROGRAM download. Then each state return is $20 early to efile or you can print and mail state for free. You can pay the $20 upfront with a credit card or deduct it from your federal refund for an additional Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California). So $60 or 65. Use your credit card and avoid the extra charge.
Click on Pay with Credit Card.
The $40 refund processing fee is Only if you use the option to pay with your federal tax refund.

I guess I'm just confused on why I'm paying for state - again. I do see it's $20 if I pay with my credit card but is this not what I paid for up front? Maybe I completely missed the meaning of Federal + State?
My fault here... I did miss the line on the state filing fee... not the program fee. Thanks all!
Yes look on the right side of the Costco screen. https://www.costco.com/turbotax-deluxe-2023-federal-e-file-%2b-state-download-for-pcmac%2c-includes-...
It says
It says Federal+Efile +State Download, not state efile.
But hooray you get a $10 credit from Costco which will automatically applied to the $20 fee. So you only pay $10. I download from Costco too.
Wish I had read this BEFORE paying the additional $40!!!
We have fairly complex tax returns and generally like TurboTax... but this, to me, is NOT clearly stated as an either pay $0 additional with credit card / OR pay an ADDITIONAL $40 to have payment deducted from Federal refund.
I'll know next year!
