@Paul F Turbo Tax can not work with a VPN, due to Turbo Tax is a 3rd party, and it will block any communication between Intuit trying to update your TT Desktop software since it is not in a cloud, but is solely software downloaded to your computer. Your desktop was created the prior year by Intuit, and must update and then throughout the tax season also when there is additional updates that either the states will make a change or the Federal Government changes, and during any trouble shooting when done, is pause VPN, pause any anti-virus, unless it is Windows defender, as Turbo Tax is compatible with Windows Defender.
I posted the Update as yes I work with TT every day, but when you do not do your windows Update, you are open to the Black Web. Even Mac is having to have people push threw what use to be automated, but push threw their updates due to the amount of Fraud happening.
Yes Windows Updates every Tuesday, and they slow release it throughout the United States to all Window software users, since yes they know who we are as we pay for it every year, but normally automatic, some are so big they do tend to get stuck, and hence the reason why I posted the fix, to help people.
@asimeonett I am puzzled by your post. If TTD does not work with a VPN, it would be nice if Intuit stated that when it sells me the program. Also, TTD has worked with Norton VPN for years with no issues for importing data. I keep my TTD updated every time I open it. When I click to update, TTD gives me no indication that the update failed because of my VPN. If I ask TTD to check for updates, it recognizes I have the correct version installed. Finally, YYD has updated my exe file multiple times, using VPN.
I agree that VPN is now (2025) an issue for importing data. From other posts, it is clear that other security processes other than VPN also cause problems.
But, thanks for helping all of us try various workarounds until we find one that works.
Make sure your computer is up to date. This has worked for many users.
If you still have issues, see this article where you can sign up for updates: Why am I getting an invalid site key reCAPTCHA error in TurboTax Desktop when trying to import broke...
I had same issue but I disabled my adblocker on my laptop and eero internet modem and it worked fine.
Had the reCAPTCHA issue when attempting to import data from a 1099 consolidated form. Issue was resolved by turning off Ad Blocking setting on Eero router. Hooray!
I turned off my VPN - problem solved
