Withholding; Getting Married

As a single person, I currently claim S0. I am getting married in September, when should I make adjustments to my withholding status?

Withholding; Getting Married

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Keep in mind that once you are married, if you file jointly then your wife's income may bump you up into a higher tax bracket.  As long as there are no other variables such as children, you may want to keep your W-4 at Single/zero and see what your 2022 refund or balance due looks like. Changing your W-4 from Single to Married will cause less taxes to be withheld from your pay, so if you are due a refund in 2022, you can make the change at that time so you get more money in your paycheck rather than having to wait until tax time for a refund.
