@cwr64 I don't how you're posting but we're in this forum

I am on W10 desktop PC and I do know I cannot run the desktop TT. I am looking to learn whether I can use the online TT in place of the desktop TT product I used last year.
I asked whether the online TT can efile for free as the desktop TT did last year.
Why do you need help posting a question? You are already posting here in the forum so you must be logged in. Go to the bottom of this page and there should be a blue box to post a new question.
Federal e-file is free but limited to ONE with online.
I got an email from someone who had replied to my old post - that is why I can easily reply. It was easy to add a reply to the existing string today. When I logged in a few days ago I couldn't easily figure out how to correctly post a question from scratch. I logged in and looked at a bunch of screens and did wind up with the post but I have no idea (then or now) of the right way to do it or even how I did it.
Once logged in, what do I click on to see list of my posts that I can then click on to select a post to view and see all the replies?
What do I click on to create a new post from scratch?
My tax return needs are fairly simple. My wife and I file joint, we live in Texas so we do not file state, we do not own a business, we owe nothing, we do not own anything but our home and a couple of cars (paid for) . We are retired and do not have W2's. We have an annuity, a small investment account that buys and sells stock (thus my need to import) and has almost zero foreign income, bank accounts, retirement income from retirement and SS. Which TT online product do you think I ought to use?

If you can get to the Search screen, click on Ask a Question to start a new thread.

If you have security sales to import, then you need to use TurboTax Premium (online).
I always used the TT Deluxe Federal-only desktop TT product in the past (cost me maybe $40 or less at COSTCO) and when I selected "import" it showed me a little window where I was able to select Pershing for the import. Worked very well. Are you saying that I need to select a high dollar TT online product to do that same import?
Yes you will need Online Premium to enter or import investments sales. You can enter interest and dividends into Deluxe. And Online has different features than Desktop.
The Online web version is only good for one account and one return. You can log in and access your return from any computer. You only can see the forms after you pay and download the pdf. And you might need to upgrade to a higher version to enter different kinds of income. And you can add LIVE service or Full Service for expert help. In Online the fees are to prepare the federal and state returns (State is a separate charge) whether you efile or print and mail. Efiling is free and included.
You can see the prices and start an Online return here,
@cwr64 in case you missed, see above re offer for 2025 you can switch to online premium for no extra cost if you purchase desktop. Long term online is more expensive than desktop but for 2025 you can try it out without paying more and probably for 2026 you'll be on Win 11 and switch back to desktop
Thanks for the info, but I have moved on to H&R Block's product. CNET actually rates it higher than TT for 1st time ever, and they apparently are able to handle 'the security concerns' in WIN10 that TT engineers working on the US version are unable or not allowed to deal with, unlike their colleagues who work the Canadian and commercial TT versions. Either way, Intuit has shown themselves to be disengenuous in their explanations and negligent in the care for their customers, so there is no way I would trust them with my data online or in a Desktop version again. Regardless of what next year brings with respect to Windows, I won't be back.

Who cares what rating CNET gives TT? The interface is different and definitely more clunky than TT so you might want to look at TaxAct if you're going to switch. It really does have a better interface than H&R Block.
I have already started with HRB. Interface is different for sure, but TT's was not all that great either. Its a program, not rocket science, most important to me was the ingest of my previous files, which it did just fine. My manual checks of the calcs show no issues. Only unkown for me now is the efile. We'll see.

Yes, but only if you have a simple return.
