My wife and I have been filing jointly for over 20 years with Turbo Tax, we’re both US Citizens with social security numbers and this is the very first time Turbo Tax is asking about her citizenship. It’s very alarming.

You might have clicked something accidentally in MY INFO. Go back through the MY INFO screens for her name.

We had the same thing happen. It is unnerving and strange. Like you, filing jointly for over 20 years, both citizens of the US.

Is the selection to claim your wife as a dependent selected in the my info section? The US resident is a question typically asked when trying to claim a dependent.

No. Nothing was checked other than married filing jointly.
