Why doesn’t TurboTax ask for dependent relationship until you check for errors?

Yes, it does, when you click the "Add a Dependent" button in the personal section, the first question is if this child is your own child or another person. If you click "my child" it asks if this is your son or daughter. If you click another person it asks for relation to you. If you don't answer, while in error check mode it may ask again for verification in review.

But this is a dependent from last year.  Why didn’t it transfer that info?

Are you sure you are using the account you used last year? If you had a dependent last year, all that information would transfer over year to year.

Yes I’m using last year’s account.  Plus it knew his name so why wouldn’t it know the relationship?

Perhaps not all of last year's data did not fully flow into this year's program.

Why doesn’t TurboTax ask for dependent relationship until you check for errors?

I started over and this time I checked the box to edit my child’s info and the relationship was correct.  But I ended up not really changing anything so it really shouldn’t have been necessary to do this.  It should’ve just transferred all this to this year!!  A glitch I would say for sure!!

Why doesn’t TurboTax ask for dependent relationship until you check for errors?

Everything else transferred over just fine, except this!! I know how to do the transfer, I've been using TurboTax for several years now.

Why doesn’t TurboTax ask for dependent relationship until you check for errors?

True...Maybe there are some new questions not previously asked quite in the same way.

Sometimes TTX needs to add some additional questions, based on problems that occurred in prior years, and it's not always obvious that some new Q was added.

Should probably make it a habit to go thru (edit) each person on your tax return every year, just to check.

Maybe they should ask some questions to see if you need to even revisit your dependent’s info.  This year was the first time in several years that the program was very frustrating to work with!!!
