Why can't I copy/paste passwords into the import brokerage logon screen?

In order to copy/paste the password, you will need to ensure the password is actually showing such as Password123 not showing as ***********. When copying please use the Ctrl + C, and paste using Ctrl + V.

Level 2

Still does not work.  I'm using the downloaded (local) version, not the web version.  It is fully updated.

I copied using cntrl-C and pasted using cntrl-V.  To make sure there's not something funny with LastPass, I even tried copying/pasting to Notepad (password pasted correctly) and then copying again and cntrl-V pasting to TurboTax.  ZILCH

Please advise.

Does the password enter at all? If it does but it's greyed out then you can try backspacing the last character of the password and then retyping the last character. If it's not pasting any of the password, then you will need to manually type the password.

This doesn't work for me. I have this in Lastpass and I use the copy function.

The password can be pasted into notepad via ctrl-v fails when pasting into turbotax.

I can paste the username,

Typing a 24 character password is  huge chore.

When copying, are you using the mouse to copy or using Ctrl+C ?

I use the drop down for last pass via the mouse. I click on the "copy password" link.

It pastes via Ctrl-V into notepad.

This is definitely a bug in TurboTax. Paste into the password doesn't work. The Menu Edi:;Paste does not paste into the password field, but it does paste into the Username field.

I'm guess Intuit didn't want people to be able to copy from the password field, so they disabled the edit menu functions there. This, unfortunately, disables the paste function.

Intuit: FIX THIS.

Why can't I copy/paste passwords into the import brokerage logon screen?

Copy/Paste, CTRL+V, and Edit>Paste do not work.  It's pretty frustrating that I can't copy MY 20-digit password into MY tax return software!  It's a pretty easy fix, and there are SEVERAL posts on this subject.

@dsmith5010

It is for security purposes that specific sites do not allow you to copy and paste your password and user name.  Please try typing your password in and it should allow you to proceed.

@HeatherPLO
Sorry, but this reduces security. I don't know my password. I haven't known my password for YEARS.

I know the password for my  password manager and then I have a unique incredible complex long password to long into my various financial websites.

NONE of them block my password manager from allowing me to copy passwords in. This is might be a reason given but it is not valid.
If the site doesn't block paste on web it shouldn't block on turbotax.

COPY out is another story, that can not be allowed. PASTE is a good thing.

I literally can't type the password. It is too long, to many random characters...

As an example...

Not a password but one of the same length I use on one of my websites.

I figure there is zero chance I will able to type this in and nor do I want to even try.

Note: This SAME website is stored in Quicken and I was able to paste in there. (I know you don't support Quicken anymore).

Please explain what possible security purpose is served by restricting the pasting of a password.

I agree that preventing pasting of a password serves no benefit at all. Companies make random rules like this for passwords. It is very annoying.

However there is a workaround, not a straight forward one though unfortunately. I use a keyboard shortcut tool 'AutoHotKey' which has an option to type the clipboards, and it helps with exactly such situations. Type out text in clipboard - Ask for Help - AutoHotkey Community

I agree 100%!  Even my password into TurboTax is like yours - 32 random characters.

You must not have tried this yourself. In the import field for the brokerage password, you cannot use Control V paste option.
