Where to enter IP pin?

I assume you have your new 6-digit IP PIN to be used this year in calendar year 2025 as you prepare your 2024 return.  If using Online TurboTax here are 3 ways to get to the right place to enter the IP PIN.  You only need to use one method.   You can choose which method works for you the best.

• Once you've opened the interview back up, click in the top right corner on the search icon (magnifying glass).
• Enter the term IP PIN without quotes.  When entering, ignore the dropdown menu, and instead click the small magnifying glass on that same line.
• Then click on Jump to IP PIN.

Or here's a second way:

• With your return open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then choose subtab TOOLS.
• In the Tools window choose TOPIC SEARCH.
• Enter the term IP PIN without quotes.
• In the selection list highlight IP PIN and click GO.

Or here's a third navigation method:

• With your return open, in the left menu column, click Federal.
• Then choose subtab  Other Tax Situations.
• If you've been in that section before, you may see the IP PIN section listed, and you can EDIT.  If  this is your first time in that section, answer the preliminary questions, and it may ask you if you have an IP PIN.  If so, indicate "yes", and keep following the screens as it guides you to enter it.
• If it doesn't, in the "Uncommon tax situations" list, scroll down to Other Return Info, and expand to see the subtopics, one of which is Identity Protection PIN.

Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN: 

1. Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return") 
2. Once the return is open, then go to the Federal Taxes tab. 
3. Subtab Other Tax Situations 
4. Scroll down to Other Return Info. 
5. Choose Identity Protection PIN and Start (or Revisit.) 
6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?" 

Or another way: 

1. Open your return if not already open.  ("Take me to my return.") 
2. Once the return is open, click at the top on MY ACCOUNT, then choose TOOLS. 
3. In the Tools window choose TOPIC SEARCH. 
4. Enter IP PIN without quotes. 
5. In the selection list highlight IP PIN and click GO. 
6. Next screen asks:  "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"

Premier Turbo Tax for 2024 Filing (Desk Top Version)

April 7, 2025

1.  Once you have your tax return open.
2. Go to View and choose form View.
3. You will now see Form in My Return.
4. Click on Info Wks (Federal Information Worksheet)
5. Scroll down to the page to the section marked Identity Protection PIN (DO NOT CHOOSE Third Party Designee, Personal Identification Number).  This will only allow you to enter a 5-digit number
6. After you have located Identity Protection PIN enter your Pin number in the box.
7. Stay in forms view and then click on the 1040 Form.
8. Scroll down the form to the signature area to see that your Pin Number was entered.
9. Go back to View and choose Step-By-Step to resume printing and filing your taxes.

I hope this helps.  It should not be so difficult.

Are you referring to a 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) provided by the IRS?

Why IP Pin input not part of the automated progression in inputing your information?  The place to input one's IP Pin is hidden. How is one supposed to guess that my IP Pin is put under "Federal taxes" ->"Other Tax Situations" -> "Other Return Info"?  Come on, it got to made easier than that?!!

Sorry you had trouble finding it, but you are correct--several things are not very intuitive in the program.  I realize you've already found what you needed, but for future reference there is a handy tool that will help you find specific topics.   I'll illustrate it by using IP PIN, but you can use it on almost any topic.   However, the following steps are for ONLINE TurboTax.   I don't know which version you are using--online or desktop.   If you are using Desktop TurboTax, there's a different search tool to find topics.

• Go to the left column menu, and click on the tab TAX TOOLS  then the subtab TOOLS.
• In the Tools window choose the blue button TOPIC SEARCH.
• In the search line enter IP PIN without quotes.  (or whatever topic you seek)
• Make the selection in the results list and either double-click on it or click GO.
