There has not been a resolution with H&R Block as far as I know. I spent 3 hours on the phone with them this morning trying to solve the problem of using 2019 income instead of 2020 income for Form 7202 and that hasn’t been fixed yet. If you want to use your 2020 income, you can switch to them and file, easy peasy.
TaxSlayer lets you adjust your income for the purposes of this credit. I haven't filed yet to verify that everything will get e-filed correctly and accepted by the IRS, but others have indicated it works. So far that seems like the only solution to e-file and use 2019 income for the credit.
So i gave up on TurboTax last night and tried TaxSlayer and was NOT impressed. The software is not as helpful as TurboTax for someone who is not a tax pro. Its not asking as many questions about my tax situation so i feel im being cheated out of possible tax credits. Nearing the end of my return through TurboTax, my return was around 8000, now im almost done with TaxSlayer and its only around 3000. Needless to say, im back here. I think the best route for me will be to go ahead and file here without form 7202 and amend my return later to include it.
Form 7202 is not available for e-filing, according to our forms availability sheet.
To print and mail your return, please follow these instructions if you're using TurboTax Online and review this article if you're using TurboTax Desktop.
If you wish to e-file without the credit you will need to delete the form.
How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online?
How do I delete a tax form in the TurboTax CD/Download software?
If you wish to e-file and claim this credit, your best option will be to first e-file without the credit, and then prepare an amended return claiming the credit.
@dm80: For sure, TaxSlayer is less straight-forward. I think you need to have an idea going in what all you need to fill out. Certainly more so than TurboTax. Best of luck to you!
I just don't understand why Turbotax can't give an answer to if and when (approx) this would be available for efiling with you. At some point here you should realize you're losing business, a lot it seems.
I don't necessarily want to redo it all in a different software, but I will do so this weekend if Turbotax can't give a clear answer to how you plan to deal with this.
@hannecb after 16 years with turbo tax, I left last night and went to H&R Block online. I was able to upload my 2019 taxes and everything transferred over. So I didn’t have to redo everything from turbo. Also, H&R Block caught a mistake that turbo tax was doing on my taxes for years! They also gave me a bigger refund, I was able to efile form 7202 and were cheaper. My taxes were accepted within and hour of submission. I don’t plan on going back to turbo.
Thanks, seems this may be the route.
I have read this entire thread to get myself up to date. My question is, does TT know with certainty there will NEVER be an option to e-file with form 7202, or are you working on a fix for this? Because I can wait a while to file my taxes which I spent likely 20 hours on to date. I would rather wait several weeks to e-file, versus paper filing now, if there is a chance a "fix" will appear eventually and the e-filing will be an option. So, can you please answer that question for me, is a fix in the works or is this situation going to remain unchanged?
As of right now, we are not able to say that Form 7202 will never be available for e-file. The option could possibly change with future updates. The only option right now is if you wish to e-file and claim this credit, your best option will be to first e-file without the credit, and then prepare an amended return claiming the credit.
Disaster is an understatement. I have spent months working in home and business to discover I can’t e-file due to form 7202. It ONLY said today that I couldn’t e-file , not 2 months ago when I started! The stress, and aggravation this has caused is unbelievable! Awful awful software! My only solution is to ask for a refund and start from scratch. And loose months of my time and work I put into my return. Shame on turbo tax!
They keep not answering whether or not there is a fix in the works. That is all I want to know too!
Filed with H&R Block using e-file and 2020 income. No problem took me about 1 1/2 moving info over.
Any updates on this form and online use?
As of today, form 7202 is not available for e-filing in TurboTax, unfortunately. Customers must print and mail their returns.
