When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@Anonymous Don't you have anything better to do than troll a turbotax forum? This thread would be 10 pages shorter if you didnt constantly chime in with your pro TT stuff. We get it, you love and/or work for TT. It's a forum that TT doesnt answer. This is exactly the place to talk about other tax services that may be able to help.

HR&Block does not have the form publicly available yet and I doubt they will for 2021 tax season...!

You cannot...! Some people say you could file without the form and amend your return later, but I wouldn't go that route...!

@maddenmb

If you need the form in this year's return, you have to file the return with the form.  If you don't want to wait until TT has the form programmed into their software, you can always download the form from the IRS website and complete it by hand.  Add the information into the correct lines on your TT return.  Print and file by mail.

I did consider that option until I heard about the 24 million returns backlogged from 2020 that still are not done. They supposedly hired 10,000 more people just to keep up with the regular process not including the paper returns mailed in.  Efile is the only responsible option at this point. It just makes no sense why TT is dragging their feet.  This is all they do, TAXES. I may try to file on the IRS site since they have the form available.

Pick your poison.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Nope, I filled out my whole return on the HR Block website and can't file because they don't have 8915-F. Their customer service reps can't tell me when or if the form will be ready for e-file. They want me to pay $80 to have a human being fill out the form for me.

@markehaase If all you are doing is declaring another third of a deferred Ira or 401k from 2020 Covid exclusion, you could create another 1099 and name it as such. I spoke with a CPA who advised that. I went through the 8915F directions and that’s where the output of that form goes.

I doubt the Block roll out 8915-F to the public for efiling. They may incorporate the form for print-filing. In those cases, you have two choices:

  1. Download the form from IRS, or open it in the Block software (if there), fill it out in its PDF file format with your computer and then add the calculated result to any amount on line 4b or 5b of form 1040. Let the software calculate your refund or owe, print your entire return including 8915-F and file by US mail.
  2. Use one of the online tax companies that already incorporated 8915-F and file electronically.

I would not file electronically without the form 8915-F as it could get flagged by IRS...!

hoping this simple video I found helps explain the process...it's not difficult and actually quite easy to manually account for the 2020 deferred distributions to be added to 2021 return.

@APP1NAG That explains if very well.  You still need to wait until 03/24/2022 for TurboTax to incorporate form 8915-F into their software.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@Anonymous - I’m actually using HRBlock but will be switching to TT for 2022 return. I have been lurking to see how TT is handling 8915F. The process seems quite simple and I’m thinking of filing on paper with an edited Block return to account  for 8915F distribution, and printing 8915F from IRS and sending with my Block return. I appreciate all your prior input and feedback.

Do not file a paper return unless you absolutely cannot avoid it.
