When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

So I have a question. I know that we won’t be using the 1099-R this year, but instead the 8915-F. With that being said TT is saying for my 2021 taxes that my 1099-R needs review. Do I still enter my 1099-R info from last year (2020 taxes) and then TT uses that to fill out the 8915-F once available?

@DC_33 I think it's too early to tell what will be the trigger to start the 8915-F.  It says to review it to see if you have any 2021 1099s/  There is nothing retroactive about an old 1099. that's what these specialized forms are for, carrying forward income or losses.

The form was available to be e-filed according to the IRS on 2/15/22. 

I am no software engineer, but I am fairly certain that it doesn't take 6 weeks to make a form available on your platform, especially one that you have had a draft of for several months.

I've been told different by HR&Block. The form 8915-F will be available by early March through a software update. But it will not be file-able electronically If you need to include the form in your 2021 return... You have to print your return and mail it to IRS...!

That doesn't mean it is 100% true though...! I think even TT or HR&Block do not know what are they doing with the form...!

I am a developer and it’s not.. especially given the simplicity of this form. They are just not prioritizing it.

They should provide a proper eta, I don’t think their site is accurate.

our best chance of getting anything done is to take it to their social media sad to say.

I posted a few pages back about my long-term loyalty to TT but dismay with the 8915 f delay this year. I said I would wait until this week to see if it popped up on TT but of course, it did not. I played around with multiple other sites and filed yesterday (not mentioning the site by name, so as not to be called a troll but is starts with Free :)). My Federal and State returns were accepted in less than 24 hours.  TT is still much easier to use and far more user friendly and they've never let me down in the past. If they get their act together next year, I'll likely come back. To be honest, I would have used HR Block but the upcharge for a tax pro to do 1 minute of work on 8915 F really turned me off.  Good luck to everyone. 

p.s. I played around with my numbers on 4 different sites, with and without claiming the 8915 F withdrawal (when possible) and all were identical. For reference, my filing is pretty straight forward with the exception of the 8915 f...multiple kids, mortgage interest and education deductions, 403 b and IRAs, pretty basic stuff.

I just got off the phone with lady from tt, she says projected date is 3-31-22. I told her that was shocking to me. She advised me to keep checking back it could be sooner.

@iamjimmyo - that is their talking point.  Under-promise and over deliver is a viable business strategy.  They want all of their employees saying the same thing.  Their customer service reps have access to the same webpage that you have access to:

Last year the form was released 02/26/2021.  I think they should say "no later than 03/31/2022" but they have chose this route of estimated date instead.

@kevdawg40 - I get that.  At this point I do not feel let down and really have no reason to file before 03/31/2022 anyway.

I think it is a very small subset of people that filing right away is very important to.  They just want it off their plate even though it just means them paying the IRS sooner?

Some are getting refunds, so ok, if you can't wait you can't wait.

I was told by a H & R representative that the form will not be incorporated into their program. Not sure that she knew what she was saying, but that is what she told me.

I log on everyday and "revisit" the area... Today there was an additional question asked before I was asked to revisit again so it appears its being worked on..

I updated HR&Block Deluxe program today with a Federal update... After the update I reopened the program and the box on the top right says All Federal Forms Are Final....! No mention of form 8915-F in their Updated Forms List.... I hope they are wrong and I will give them until the end of the March to change their mind...If they don't, then I quit using them after 25 consecutive years...!

no one should be defending turbo tax on this. If other companies have this form available to e file there is zero excuse why turbo tax shouldn’t have it available. This is a joke.

There’s actually no excuse for this by TT.  Don’t get me wrong we’ve been with them forever, 1999.  But to not have forms that go back as far as 2016 is none excusable .  I deleted the form, filed and got our refund Friday by 5:00 pm.
