This lunacy is now 2nd year in the making. Ok it was a giant cluster you know what the first time around. As we were all filing taxes and turbotax was dragging its feet these exact questions were being asked then. Since that point Turbotax had a whole year to get this under control. Independent of IRS... THE LEAST they could have done was program into Turbotax a simple warning message...
"Hey tax filer, we know you did the 3 year thing... just so you know you can't file taxes yet blah blah blah" but they do not even have the decency to do that.
Imagine all people who have mistakenly filed only to be severely audited down the road.
I am not asking for miracles here... ok I get that IRS is this and that and stuff but it is on Turbotax Intuit organization to do right by people and be proactive about this stuff.
They did not display any messaging in 2020 and now in 2021 sooooooo....
Condescending look emoji.
That is very interesting they gave you a date at all.. I asked the help chat and all they said was to keep checking back every few days... odd
If the form ahs been out of draft mode with the IRS for a couple weeks now why is Turbo Tax not able to allow to complete our taxes using this form? They say they will have it done a couple days after the completed instructions are released yet still nothing. Extremely frustrating.

I agree! It is very frustrating! I just want to get it filed I know last year the form was live on TT about a week or 2 after IRS finalized.. hopefully TT gets it done soon
@swaybill02 The IRS released Form 8915-F within the past week. It will take some time to incorporate the form into the TurboTax software. We currently have an availability date of 03/31/2022. Thank you for patience as we work diligently to make this form available to everyone.

Yes I know
@DaraLO This is incorrect I spoke with TT yesterday and they said to check daily and that the 3/31 was not correct and they currently have no date
Agreed we should at least be able to enter it - I mean if you split the tax liability over 3 tax years, TurboTax should at least be able to simulate that into your federal and state return even if the form isn't ready to file (based on last year's tax information). There was an update today for the Mac Desktop version of Premier and for New York state forms, but still nothing with Form 8915-F and it still says to revisit the area later.
That is what I was told.. to keep checking back every few days. I have a feeling it may be like last year. It was about a week or 2 after form was finalized by IRS
I agree, that's why I don't really believe what he is saying.
In the past it has taken a few days to 10 to 14 days for Inuit to update or add a form that the IRS releases in Jan or Feb. They have never given a date far into the future like "Mar 31st." So this is why I discount the veracity of his statement.
Agree! But...
Who knows if the ability to flag features to be added is even present in the software. As far as rewriting from the ground up or making major changes to cover outliers, that's a cost benefit analysis that THEY have to make. I mean most airline agents are still staring at a green ASCII based text system, without a mouse?
6+ weeks in unacceptable to get a form uploaded for use. So you expect people to wait until April 1st to start filing their taxes. That is insane.
In this public forum, we are provided with form availability information, but not an explanation as to why the form is not available until that date. For additional information, it would be necessary to contact customer support. Please refer to the information below to contact customer support.

Does anyone else have a situation where they took a coronavirus distribution from their pension/401k in 2020, but the actual payment didn't get distributed until 2021? How will this work now with my 1099R? I'll just have to claim it all in one year and not get to spread it out like you could for 2020 tax year?
Great news! The IRS created new Form 8915-F to replace Form 8915-E. This form will be used for anyone who chose to take a distribution from their retirement and spread the taxable amount over three years.
It was recently (this week) taken out of draft and finalized. TurboTax has an available date of March 31, 2022. Continue to check the availability date by using the link provided.
When entering your 1099-R in TurboTax CD/Download, you’ll be asked Was this withdraw due to Covid-19? On the next screen, it should ask you Did you test positive for the coronavirus in 2020? However, some users are reporting they aren’t being asked that second question.
