Tax Year Prior to 2020: What if my parents claimed me as a dependent in 2019 but I no longer live with them in 2020 can I still claim the stimulus check?

What if my parents claimed me as a dependent in 2018, but not in 2019? Our 2019 taxes haven’t been processed yet, but they will be eventually... will I be able to get a payment later somehow?

Hello I have a question,

I am trying to help a friend get some information in 2018 she filed taxes as an independent person  checked that she could not be claimed by anyone she is a college student 23. For 2019 she moved back home for health reasons  and filed with her mother. She is trying to find out if she will still receive the economic relief stimulus?

I am a college student and filed my own taxes earlier this year in Jan/Feb before the COVID stimulus package was announced. My parents claim me as dependent, but I received a stimulus check. My parents do not have direct deposit set up, so they haven’t received their stimulus package yet. Will I have to send my check back?

Probably so. That’s considered fraud. If someone can claim you, you’re supposed to mark that they can.

If her mother claimed her as dependent in 2019 she is not eligible for a check.

If your mother claimed you, you will not get a check.  Being 24 in 2020 has nothing to do with it, neither does your "permission".  If your mother qualified to claim you, she can do so. You are not eligible for a check if someone else COULD claim you, whether they did or not.

I have a question for anyone out there. 

I just filled my 2019 return and I am not a dependent, however, I was a dependent in 2018 what will my status be? I know the checks have already started to go out.

My mom took it out of my account and won’t let me spend it saying how it’s fake I shouldn’t have gotten it and that I need to send it back. It took me two hours to get my money back. This has notting to do with taxes. The only thing about taxes is where the money goes. I’ve been working since I was 16 this money is mine. I’ve been 18 for a good min. Is this fake or what

Even without permission to be marked as a dependent? Over the last 4 years she hasn’t marked her as a dependent and then all of the sudden she does when this stimulus check comes up. Seems fishy/fraudulent to me.
