What happens if I mail my ITIN application to the wrong address?

I have sent form W-7 along with related documents and my federal tax return to the IRS address on form 1040  without realizing that it should be sent specifically to the ITIN Operation PO Box. Since the ZIP codes are different, I wonder if this means my application has been lost and I should submit a new one. Please advise.

Eventually it will be routed to the right place.  I would wait.
