We filed married filing jointly for 1st time this year. My husband got email saying he hasnt filed his taxes yet. If we file jointly doesnt that take care of both of us?

If you file a joint return and put ALL of your combined income on that return, you are both good.  Your spouse does not need to pay any attention to those emails.   He should keep a record of how to access his old account in case he needs to get to the returns he prepared using that account.

Yes, if you file jointly, it will cover both of you. If the email was from TurboTax, it is most likely because your husband may have used a different ID last year and simply because no return was filed on that ID, TurboTax is giving an alert. 

 

To clarify, was the email from TurboTax and did your husband use a different ID last year to file his taxes last year?
