Thanks, but it definitely wasn't my problem which fixed itself, presumably from a recent update/patch
Mine is now working, presumably from a recent update and/or patch. The Printing and/or PDF creation works from all possible places (such as File--Print, or File--Export to PDF or Forms View--Print--Print Preview--Save as PDF, etc)
I had also installed AdobeAcrobatReader (2 weeks ago) which definitely was not necessary in previous years. I was then able to print via 1 pathway only (can't remember how). (Mom was hospitalized and) I didn't check it out for a couple weeks, but now it magically works
Here is my solution.
I had done that previously, but it didn't help. I'm guessing that an update patched the problem.
For immediate assistance, please reach out to our live Customer Service reps via telephone. Here's how you can reach someone: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number/00/25632
Same problem with TT Deluxe 2019. Can't print TT hangs and I have to force quit it. Cannot preview or print. This needs to be fixed now.
The Chuck is correct. That solution worked. Thank you!
As described, was unable to print or save Intuit file as PDF. Simply clicking on the Turbotax menu with the option key held down solved the problem ?!
There are many "solutions" because the last thing done before it prints is assumed to have fixed it. Once it prints the state return (It always seems to be only the state that hangs) then subsequent prints seem to be fine.
This has not been fixed because nobody can figure out how to reproduce the problem and a problem that cannot be reproduced and analyzed cannot be fixed.
It does appear that something external to TurboTax is blocking the Apple print function from completing, but without being able to preform analysis (such as a spin dump) *while* the problem is occurring then there is no way to see what is blocking it - and nobody can "make" it happen to do that.
Let's all give a round of applause for thechuck. His fix worked. I had a hint that might be the problem because I tried to print while giving control to a TT person. It eventually printed because it took so much longer to get to the actual print. It just needed more time to find my printer. When I put the name of the printer in place of "Any Printer," it worked much faster. Thanks, Chuck.
PROBLEM SOLVED after TT Customer Support pushed another copy of TTDeluxe 2019 to me. I uninstalled previous version (from Sam's) through Finder (did not have to delete individual files). Installed the new version and it worked first time. Thanks Michelle B!!!
Having said that, that was my second call to TT Customer Support. The first time I got "disconnected" after the "supervisor" took a half hour to ask me if my TT was up to date (it was) and did I reboot my system (I did).
The Chuck solution nor deleting the com.intuit.turbotax.2019.plist file worked for me
I did notice this problem has been around since Feb. The problem maybe with the Sam's/CD version?
Good Luck
The problem I have is that there is no way to save or print the Preview. On Windows (using TT 2004-2018), I used to use this function to save the forms as filed to a pdf. On the Mac, though, this is non-functional.
To be clear, when I select File > Preview, and then select whatever returns or Type of forms to print and click Preview, the next page is a relatively tiny window (about 1/4 the screen size at best, and in 4-point font), that I can't stretch or zoom. And the only option at that point is Close. No way to save or print the preview.
I have tried the suggestions of setting the default printer and deleting the .plist file. Those didn't fix this issue.
I am able to File > Save to PDF, which seems to include all the worksheets, etc. But I don't really know what it contains (without opening it and making note of what's there) because Save to PDF doesn't provide any options to select the forms.
Does Preview allow anyone else to save to a PDF or print?
I'm running macOS Catalina with TurboTax Premier 2019, and dual monitors in portrait orientation (in case that affects the Preview dialog).
Respectfully, I don't buy it. This problem has existed for at least 4-5 years. I have tried across multiple system updates and two different macs, 2 different printers and my tax returns just will not print oe even previer without crashing TT. My returns will not create PDFs. Multiple calls to Apple, Epson and TT support have yielded no help. A TT support person took over my computer and sent me an updated TT with no improvement. The saving grace is that I have my wife's Windows laptop (which I hate) and TT prints there.
With all due respect, when you add in that the tech took over my machine, the problem seems very reproducible.
It has been 3 or 4 years that I have not been able to print TT to my Mac printers. This is very bad. This is awful. This why I may be thinking of changing software. I have all of my history on TT so I have stayed with it and I have a Windows machine that i can print from.TT tech has been no help at all. I gave done many system updates to 2 Macs and I have used 2 printers over the last years and I still cannot print or print preview or create a PDF file.
Have you tried getting "hidden" updates by using option-TurboTax-DownloadLatestUpdates? It worked for me last year using Catalina and again this year with BigSur.
Never trust that when TT says it is "UP TO DATE!" that it is actually true, you have to verify by using the option key on the menu. Good luck!
