@karenmassey oh no this is giving me anxiety! I thought 2 days would be enough time.
After e-filing your W-2 or 1099 form, please monitor your form status in the Forms tab of the corresponding business. The form status will change from "E-File Processing" to either "E-File Accepted" or "E-File Rejected", once the Government Agency processes the form. The status change may take up to 2 to 4 weeks. You will also receive a notification by e-mail when the status changes.
Hi @AbrahamT last year the W-2s were accepted within 48 hours. How come it is taking a lot longer this year?
They could be accepted sooner, but 2-4 weeks is an IRS estimate. @sugarlandcpa
That is very strange to me because other outlets are not having this trouble, the IRS and SSA are accepting those and replying within an hour that they have accepted them.
I don't think that's true. I know a CPA office using different software and waiting.
I ran 1099s for 4 businesses. The first one took two weeks to be accepted. The second one 4 days. The 3rd still being processed. The 4th accepted in 24hrs. The 4th was the only one I received an email from Intuit that it was accepted even though the 1st and 2nd show accepted online. If you e-file by today you have sent it in time. We have no control over when the IRS accepts them. As I said my 3rd is still processing and I did one later that was already accepted.
I think because the rules have changed for so many that they have to e-file, that the IRS wasn't prepared.
Will there be a penalty if we get approval for the W-2s after January 31st since they are due on January 31st?
As long as you e-filed by the 31st, you should be fine. That's the requirement, e-file by the 31st.
I filed three 1099-NECs Jan 31 in the morning, and as of now (Feb 1st, 8 pm) the status still says "submitted for e-file." What does "submitted for e-file" mean? Does that mean the forms have not been transmitted and are sitting somewhere on TurboTax's server? Would it be considered late filing since we are past the Jan 31 deadline?
I called and spoke with 3 TurboTax reps, and they have no clue what I was talking about. Two of them hung up on me, and the third one asked me to call Quick Books because they thought Quick Employer Forms is a product of Quick Books.
I regret using Quick Employer Forms. Bad tool.
I had the same experience, they were clueless on tech-support. But fear not, my forms were finally accepted, and yours will be too. It really is a good tool, and it’s free! The IRS was backed up. I don’t think it was TurboTax’s fault. However, their tech-support needs some serious realignment.
You are fine. If you click on the individual 1099 it will probably say processing by the IRS.

It's true the first page will always say e-file submitted, it doesn't change. You have to go into the business. Although, I will add that I did four businesses and two of them I didn't get an email that it was accepted, even though online it says it was. I'm not going to worry about it at all.
