DaveSchmitt asked:
" Where is the number that they are comparing to stored and how can I edit that number. "
I found it here (CD version):
Tools>My Tax Data>Info Wks, Routing number.
Click on that item, then click "Go to Form." Both routing and account numbers will be shown and can be edited if necessary. Click on "Close Form" when finished.
error message says the routing numbrer does not match. Doesn't match what? Where and when was this number inpiut.
You have to enter the routing number and account 2x each. TurboTax will make you enter the routing number 2x to make sure you are entering the correct number. If you are seeing a message that it does not match, then you have not entered the same number into both fields. Sign out and sign back in and go through the Filing steps again. You will be asked to enter both the routing number and account number twice to ensure the numbers match - so your direct deposit goes to the correct account. @Paul1007
Wow. Thank you Dawn. Now why couldn't any of the other 'experts' say that in this entire stream?
I used this approach, and was able to correct the routing number.
Thanks!
It wouldn't let me change my bank info. I decided to just add it as a new bank account and it defaulted to my old bank info so I was able to change it there.
Terrible answer. Turbotax should definitely allow a change in bank routing and account numbers. This is ridiculous. Is mailing my return the only answer? Then what the *** did I buy Turbotax for?
Same problem.

Did you already e-file? If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section and change how you want to receive your refund. If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.
You cannot change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted. The IRS does not allow it.
If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.
Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information
Very sorry feedback from TURBOTAX:
If you've confirmed that the bank account number and routing number that you input were correct, and the program still won't accept your entries, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.
I thought Turbotax was a robust company. Guess not! Same thing happened with my 2020 return Had to mail it in. Did so in early March. Took over three months to receive my refund!!!!!

Not sure why you think a problem with entering your banking information required you to mail your tax return. You could have chosen to receive a check mailed to your address and you still could have e-filed the tax return. Something else was wrong---but we cannot see your tax return or your account.
Did you talk to customer support to sort out the issue? Or did you check with your own bank to see if there was some sort of mistake regarding the routing number or account number? Were you entering information for a U.S. bank? You cannot have direct deposit to a foreign bank.

I had the same problem tried many different ways but finally by adding the data in the worksheet mode and save it and then leave worksheet mode it worked. If you are not getting the second request to put in routing / account number then the program did not pick it up correctly to begin with.
Having the same problem. The routing number on my checks match the routing number in my banking app, and in entering them manually I am getting the error message that the routing numbers don't match. I don't know how to resolve this
