I use desktop Home and Business and there was an erroneous entry on itemized line on 1040 for over 2 million dollars. Why is that? I called and no calls were recorded concerning this. I overrode it and checked standard deduction. It fixed it but in the state return it was there. I had to override it again. I have never had this happen before.
Any idea?

A good starting point would be to view your forms, then click on the letter I in the upper left hand side for errors.
The next step would be is to go into Deductions and Credits and recheck your entry amounts in the Mortgage interest and property taxes / Charitable contributions/ and the Medical expense category input to see if there any amounts there that were overstated.
I found the erroneous entry in medical expenses. I did not put it there. We do not have any expenses. It was there after I installed the program. Is it possible someone used the program before I received it and never deleted that entry? I assumed it was new.
No. The tax data is not saved in the program. It is in a separate data file ending in .tax2022. No way anyone could have already used the program or you wouldn't have been able to install it. The medical expenses had to come from your entry like from a W2 or SSA-1099. Did you transfer from a 2021 return?
You didn't accidentally enter any health ins for self employment? That can go to Schedule A medical. All the years I've been in the forum I never seen a post saying that. I have Home & Business too.
nope we are retired and there are absolutely no medical expenses. I mean over 2 million really. I never ever need itemized and don't pay for any medical items. And even if I did how could it possibly be over 2 million if I have health insurance that covers everything. It is a true mystery. I over rode it and deleted it. I have no tax documents ever that would have any medical expenses.
I had to go back and review our soc sec and low and behold I entered Medicare with a cost of over 2 million. OMG wow that is nuts. I found it and no more mystery. Thanks for having me question my own carelessness. 😉
