Bought TT Deluxe for PC. Started, imported 2018 tax file. Chugging along, all good.... now enter 1099-G from CA, and it wants to know if I itemized or took standard deduction last year! WTH? Didn't I just import 2018, and isnt' that info there? I don't have a pdf to look that up, nor the CD from last year....

Did you use the Desktop program last year or the online version? You should always save the pdf when you are done and print a hard copy. If you can't install the 2018 program to open the .tax2018 file you can ask support for the download program or get a copy of your return from the IRS or try converting it to pdf files at Www.Taxprinter.Com

Do you remember entering deductions last year? Would you have had enough too Itemize? More than these amounts?
For 2018 the standard deduction amounts are:
Single 12,000 + 1,600 for 65 and over or blind (13,600)
HOH 18,000 + 1,600 for 65 and over or blind
Joint 24,000+ 1,300 for each 65 and over or blind
Married filing Separate 12,000 + 1,300 for 65 and over or blind
Thank you volvogirl, I saw that in the help context. The post was more feedback to Intuit that the info is there in the return they imported, and they have a bug/issue not looking it up. This because there doesn't seem to be way to report issues or give feedback other than forums. Strange!
Unfortunately, I just dont' remember, getting old now :(. I will just have to dig thru looking for CD or find it somewhere, then install, then open the file to look up the info, and enter in TT2019 the info that it already has in it! Frustrating....
It has to ask everyone. You might have not used Turbo Tax or you Amended your return last year or it might be for a prior year (before 2018) refund you got in 2019. Lots of reasons.
well, it imported my TT2018, so it knows one used Turbo tax. Now if the user amended, it could say, hey this what I found from your imported return, and if you didn't amend it, I'll go with this. Sorry, there is no defense for this one!
there is something else. TT has no way of knowing if you filed an amended return outside of TT.
Already addressed above. TT can suggest imported value, and give the user option to "amend" it.
