Trying to import TD Ameritrade 2022 (yes, I'm behind on filing) but get msg '1099 forms not available for User ID'

I am behind on filing tax return...  I'm trying to import the TD Ameritrade 2022 1099 form into my TurboTax 2022 software.  When I enter the acct # and document ID, the TurboTax software returns "1099 forms not available for User ID."  I think this likely due to the fact that TD Ameritrade was purchased in 2024 by Charles Schwab, and so TurboTax is attempting to sign me onto a website (TD Ameritrade) that no longer exists.

Does anyone know how to overcome this, as I'll have the same issue when I work on the 2023 return.

You cannot import information for past years. You have to enter the information manually.

That's not exactly true. I remember that I did this import for a previous year's 1099s in the past without issues.  But since the merger with Schwab, this doesn't seem to work anymore.

That has never been true.   You must be  mis remembering what you did in the past.    Like in 2023 you could import your 1099s from 2022.  The companies usually take down the special prior year import files when the new year comes out.

Note that my old TDA Tax statements dating back to 2015 (9 years ago) are all accessible in PDF format on Charles Schwab's website.  Storage space doesn't seem to be a concern for them -- thus that led me to thinking that the information for import, which is essentially the same as what's in the PDFs, has not been purged (at least not for space reasons).

The consolidated 1099 forms are identified by a (unique) Document ID. And I could no longer retrieve this old one via Turbotax import (IIRC, I did succeed doing this before in a prior year).

I use  the Windows desktop version of TT, and I also tried turning off the Defender Firewall as suggested in https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/tdameritrade-1099-import-issues/00/3544581 but that didn't work for me.  Please give it a try if you also use Windows.

Wonder if anyone has the "official word" from either Intuit or TD Ameritrade/Schwab stating whether this should work for prior years or not, so that we don't have to keep guessing or waste time trying?

No need to guess or waste time trying to import past year data.   You cannot do it.  Period.   Data for 2022 has to be entered by hand.

No the import files are special files, not the same as a pdf or txf file.  They have to leave the pdf files so you can access them and most people don't get paper statements in the mail anymore.  You can print out the prior y ear pdf files to manually enter into a tax return.  Did you call Schwab or any broker to see if they have the old import files?

Just called Schwab (kudos to them working on a Sat.) and they said they don't support previous year's import, at least not after the October extension filing deadline.  They person did not sound very technically-savvy but at least we have a confirmation that it's not supposed to work with Schwab.

Since you say you are trying to get caught up on several years of tax returns, you can expect the same situation for the other past years except for 2024.   You should be able to import your 2024 data as long as you prepare the 2024 return before the financial institution takes the data down when the tax filing season for 2024 ends in mid -October.
