This year turbo tax didn’t ask about my healthcare insurance any idea why?

On January 21 2020 went step-by-step on TurboTax online past 6 years and "NO" this year did not ask for 1095-A . But IRS did 3 weeks later!

@KrisD15

This is something newly changed in the program ... I have started 6 fake returns and none of them gave me that question even if I said I had medical expenses to claim ... SO I SEE THIS SCREEN WAS JUST ADDED SOMETIME AFTER 3/5 .... ABOUT  TIME TURBOTAX  !!!!!   STILL DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR THE MONTHS YOU DROPPED THE BALL  .... too bad you didn't listen to my comments back in December... could have saved you lots of bad publicity and a possible law suit.

HOWEVER ... requiring users to upgrade for this is another BAD IDEA that I am sure will bite you in the end.

To all the users of TT ... if your income was $69K or less then the IRS FREE FILE has an option for you ... there are 10 companies in the FREE FILE options to choose from ... in the future if you qualify to use one of these options please take advantage to use one ...  https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

I was a TT "expert" for a while so I know the program very well ... and I assure you they messed up big time this year ... the info that @KrisD15  just posted was for the very recent FIX they finally made to the program and is probably  meant for any new folks who wander across this post in the future.

@katiejane

What steps did you take to get a refund from TT?  I am trying to figure out how to proceed.

Thanks

Yeah this is kind of crap, Turbo tax should have still had it as a question if you received a Form from your insurance. Now I have to mail in the Forms to IRS and wait another month I am sure for my return. Not happy right now. I have been using turbo tax for 13 years. Pretty sure I won't be next year. I payed over $100 to file my taxes so that I wouldn't have an IRS problem.

My letting from the IRS said all I had to do was mail them a copy of the 8962 plus a copy of the Form1095-a that I received. Pretty sure that is all that is needed.

Good luck with yours!

I am not happy with Turbo right now and seriously thinking of not using again.

Go to contact us, have them call you. They will tell you that their refund policy clearly states no refunds once you have prepared your taxes, girl was very rude. Asked for supervisor, supervisor que was 20 minutes. They called me back in less than 20 minutes, guy immediately said he would look into the refund after explaining the taxes were prepared incorrectly due to not asking for the form, now its a month later still waiting for refund blah blah blah. Both my account and my sons account were affected and both were refunded on the return call.

I too am suffering from this.  I am not a happy customer at all.  I helped my friends file through Turbotax this year as well and they just recieved their letter in the mail.  What a bunch of crap.  This is the third year in a row that I have filed through Turbotax and never encountered this problem until this year.  I paid $170 to file this year and they can't even prompt a question of "Did you receive at 1095-a this year?"  "Yes or No?"  To make matters worse the 8962 form is **bleep** near impossible to figured out how to fill it out properly and the IRS is even more impossible to get ahold of.  What a freaking mess.

I watched a video on YouTube to help me fill the 8962 form out! Hope that helps 😊

Turbo tax did not give me an option to fill in my insurance information. I didn’t think I had to enter my information because I wasn’t given a form and because the insurance penalty was dropped. I got a letter from the IRS stating they need my insurance information. I tried to amend my taxes and had to type in the search bar for the insurance form, there was never an option for me to fill the form out unless I searched the form. Now my taxes are going to be delayed. I’m not too happy about it. Then on top of that I accidentally hit deluxe version while I was trying to amend my taxes but it would not let me cancel the deluxe version. I dislike how turbo tax consistently will try to make people upgrade to a more expensive version but will not give an option to down grade. I heard H&R Block has an online service where I can file my taxes for free, and heard it’s easier than turbo. This will be my last year using Turbo, this is ridiculous

TurboTax did not specifically ask about your healthcare insurance due to the change in the tax law that eliminated the penalty for not having healthcare insurance.

However, TurboTax did ask "Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan?" if you selected the deductions and credits tab.

Contact TT support for a code to get rid of the upgrade fee ... complain heavily about this issue that they literally just fixed the issue 2 days ago.

Wrong.  It did not ask me this after I selected certain deductions and credits, along with what appears to be several other people complaining here about the same issue as me.  Otherwise why would I have not entered the information?  I had my 1095-A ready to go when filing.  I would not be waiting until until May or potentially June for my refund had TurboTax prompted a question in regards to this.  I have never waited longer than the end of February to receive my refund.  I can't even get ahold of the IRS now to see if they have received the information they requested that I sent  them over two weeks ago, that I hopefully filled out correctly.  Now it's just a waiting game.  I don't think you want to try to blame me for this right now.  I just paid this program $170 to create an extra unnecessary stress in my life.  Thank you very much.
