We have been trying to install this software for two days on two different computers. It does NOT work...
Can't even download the product to even get started. Used the CD for years with no problems.
I clicked on your link for customer support and it doesn't work either... Rather ironic
I had the exact same issue on my PC. The older versions from 2022 and 2023 worked but not this year. This year's version did work for a while, but after I think it was the State update, it no longer worked. I would get a generic error message that was blank and asked for my email and to report back to TT. The fix was to download Microsoft C++ x64, after that install TurboTax worked again. I believe my earlier version of TT did not include the download of C++. I only noticed this after I did a fresh download on a different computer. A window popped up about installing C++. I hope this helps others that might be having the same issue. Co google "Visual C++ Redistributable downloads" and install the x64 version.
I got an error on the Home Energy Credit. I entered all the information about window and heat pump installations and it said something like "You don't qualify for any Home Energy Credits: $0". No explanation, no help. Somehow, after jumping ahead in the return and then back a couple of times, it updated to show the credit. I had another issue with a 1099-MISC and questions it asked about whether a portion of the lawsuit settlement was for back pay. I entered information required and it just kept cycling me back through all the questions and would not exit that section. I've been using TurboTax for years, but the poor quality control is unacceptable. And if you click on Help, it connects you to a user forum where you get to search for answers from other customers! Where's the product support, Intuit???? The IRS has their own software now, so why pay for this crap anymore?
I am having the same problem but can't seem to find an answer. I guess I will need to call for assistance.
Interesting that all of you are still having issues. Other than the issue with property taxes I have had no issues. I am using deluxe with state which I have used for years. Updates are going fine for me and my original download version back in early December did install the C++ add on again even though I had a version from previous years and this one was not a new version. As a number of others I have been using TT for 25+ years with little or no isssues. Yes this year is different than prior years and I tend to chat with more users who can't file online who have tried HR Block and left it behind. Also my prior years are working fine and continue to update occasionally.
This is my 17th year with TurboTax. Often there's a minor issue (like a late form...ex. K-1 always seems to update late, but could have been IRS more than Intuit...but luckily I no longer need that form).
This is the first time I recall having a major glitch where the program stops responding at the same part of the process (final review) and I have to manually use Task Manager to abort the program. I'll give it a few more days and then contact Turbo Tax. Or maybe I'll first reinstall as it seems that has worked for some people on other issues. Thanks for the input.
P.S. My install also did the C++ as well.
I can't believe it but after several weeks of hassle I finally got TT to work. For about the 6th tme I closed all my browser windows, cleaned out the files and cache, did a hard reboot and downloaded again. Imagine my astonishment when it opened! It did get to the point where it asked me to download the correct C++ file (even though I already had it) and it kept on going. I decided I wouldn't close it down and just kept on going. It did pull in the info from my 2023 return, downloaded my hubby's W2 and even downloaded the files from our investment account. I will admit it was a bit slow in updating the refund/owed boxes at the top as I went along but once I went to another section it would update. Two things: ! - Make sure you are using the x64 version of the C++ Apparntly there is a x64 version and an x86 version and the long version number that everyone was posing was wrong. The number was associated with the x86 version. And 2 - I don't know if it makes a different but I ran it with my VPN on and had no problems.
Anyway I'm done and both my federal and state returns have been submitted. Personally I found the way things were set up to enter info wasn't near as user friendly as before. I managed to get the same info into 2 different areas causing me to owe. When I fixed that problem we now get a small refund. Good luck to all!
Well, I am having problems with my downloads with Edge browser but not with Chrome or iOS. This issue appears to be on the Intuit side of compatibility.
I too had problems with the program wiping all data entered and / or not booting up. I eventually resolved it by clearing my cache, downloading the TT program again and downloading the x64 version of the C++. There was no prompt for the C++, I picked up that tip on this thread. Thank you for that!
Mine isn’t calculating taxes at all. Their response of “there is no avalanche” is unacceptable. This is fraud.
I spent 7 hours today with Intuit tech support on 3 issues related to the online version of 2024 Turbotax, on Windows 11 PC running in Chrome browser.
Most of the issues were related to:
1. The server side not keeping track of the completed information and not syncing correctly. everytime the page timed out and I had to login there was loss of some information. I cleared the cach and did the usual browser debugging, but the problem is persistent.
2. connectivity to banks for automatic download and categorization of expenses. The server SW does not allow for return to add additional banks, after the first one was added. The expenses need to be added manually.
3. if you delete a self-employment occupation and try to start over again, there seems to be a flag that blocks connecting any additional banks or downloading the information from the connected banks again. I had to "clear and start over" option with the entire 2024 return several times to import and categorize from only one bank correctly.
I have never used the Windows app version before, but the number and nature of my problems with the online version strongly indicate that Intuit is losing its grip on quality. It makes me wonder if I should trust it anymore. I have been using the online version for 6 years and never had any issues until this year.
So, yes, there is evidence of "an avalanche of problems".
What happened to 1099 import data?? I've been using it for years!
It's sad how few brokerages you "partner" with, but this year my Fidelity and E*Trade forms appear to download, and don't populate data in the tax forms.
I am having the same issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Turbo Tax Delux for 2024 and get an error message every time I try to open the program. No help from customer service except another link to install. Which I did but it still does not help.
