THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

For your wife's 1099-R, go back in and edit that 1099-R.  When you click Continue on the page Enter your 1099-R details from [custodian name], you get a screen Do any of these situations apply to you? .  If "I inherited this IRA" is checked, click a different category or "None of these apply", then Continue.

As for the Canadian Pension, you can click on the Personal Income tab(on TurboTax Desktop) or Income on the left side menu (for TurboTax online) to escape the question asking about the custodian of the Canadian pension.

THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

TurboTax really messed up my return.  My SSA 1099s total was $41206.  Instead of calculating the taxable benefits, it put a $0 in line 6b.  So instead of getting back over $8000, we received $4500.  When I called the IRS they explained that there should have been $35026.  So, not only did we receive less back from federal, but I just recalculated the state and we now owe over $1700!!!  There is a flaw in the software.  It is not doing the calculation that is in IRS Publicatio 915.  So when I tried to call an "Expert,"  she kept telling me that the SSA1099 information on the TurboTax was correct.  She wouldn't listen to what I was saying about what the IRS told me.  I am really upset right now with TurboTax!!!

@nightshine   Turbo Tax does calculate SS right.   But people have been skipping the next question about living in a Foreign Country or answering it wrong.   Should be No.

What state are you in?   You shouldn’t need to amend state.   Most states do not tax Social Security and subtract any taxable amount from the federal AGI.  So if there was no amount on 1040 line 6b there’s nothing to subtract on the state return.

I ran into issues with TurboTax as well and ended up having to escalate it. I filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and my state Attorney General, and also opened a credit card dispute after a promised refund was not issued.

I also checked independent reviews, and many customers are reporting similar issues, including on Trustpilot where TurboTax currently has a very low rating.

Just sharing in case it helps anyone else dealing with unresolved problems to know what options are available.

The problem is that Turbo Tax didn't calculate line 6b correctly on the federal return. So, instead they had mhy GAI as $115,000 instead of $150,000.  That incorrect GAI fed into my state return and now I owe much more than I have already paid.

@nightshine   What state are you in? Having 0 Social Security on federal 1040 line 6b should not affect your state return. Most states do not tax SS so if the IRS adds it in for you, you do not have to amend federal.   And don't have to amend state since it was not included in state to begin with.

If your state started with the federal AGI 115,000 and 0 on 6b  then the state subtracted 0 and is still using 115,000.  If you now have federal AGI of 150,000 and 35,000 on 6b then state is 150,000-35,000 = 115,000.  Comes out the same way.

The IRS didn't look at it that way.  I expected an $8000 return and received $4500.  The AGI was supposed to be $150,000 not $115,000.

I spoke to them and the $35,000 was supposed to be added as income.  Not a 0.

THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

BLUF: TurboTax H&B 2025 is not calculating correctly when multiple form 8839s are involved.

I have adopted 6 special needs children.  The first 5 were adopted in 2023.  The sixth child was adopted in 2025.

For the TY2025, TurboTax Home and Business 2025 calculated Form 8839 Line 11c as zero despite Line 11b containing $5,000 for the sixth child (Form 8839 Copy 2).  On Form 8839 Copy 1, lines 11b and 11c were blank.

When I rearranged the entry order to place the sixth child in the first entry position, 11c calculated as $5,000 as expected.  Line 13 also reported $5,000

Also, H&B 2023 and H&B 2024 did not include the 2nd 8839 in the PDF records.  In H&B 2025 both 8839s are in the PDF.

H&B 2023 did not calculate the Line 22 to adjust for special needs.  The instructions state that the max benefits should be listed on Line 22 when the child is special needs.

THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

I purchased a Desktop License to file a 2025 Federal and State Tax returns - Deluxe package. I used a Mac OS version on an M3 processor.
1. In the beginning it failed to import my prior year return from the online platform

2. After I finished entering all the Federal tax info, the application froze for an hour, I had to force quit it and all the data was lost.

3. Please advise on how to get a refund for this broken software.

I, too, was frustrated by the buggy TurboTax this year.  Did you write the code with AI, and let most of your debuggers go?  After multiple problems with 1099 entries, I hired a tax preparer who used another Intuit product.  I want a refund for my useless TurboTax purchase this year.

Here is how to request a refund for a TurboTax product if you believe that you qualify for it.

THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

I have a 1099R for which I received 50% of the Gross Distribution.  I entered in Box 9A 50% as was on the form, yet turbo tax is the entire gross distribution as taxable.  Why isn't turbo tax taking the 50% into account?

THERE IS A BUG IN YOUR SOFTWARE. HOW DO I REPORT IT?

Please clarify. Box 1 of Form 1099-R is the total amount of the distribution, and Box 2a is the taxable amount. TurboTax will use the amount you enter in Box 2a as the taxable amount. If Box 2a is blank on your Form 1099-R or the Taxable Amount Not Determined box is checked, enter the form exactly as it appears; TurboTax will ask follow-up questions to calculate the taxable portion.

If you only received a portion of the distribution because part of it was withheld for taxes, you would still report the entire taxable distribution and also report the amounts withheld in the appropriate boxes (Box 4 for Federal taxes, Box 14 for state taxes, or Box 17 for local taxes).

If part of your distribution was withheld for another reason, such as to pay a debt, the full amount of the distribution would still be taxable.
