If you are using TurboTax Desktop, check for updates by selecting "Online" in the top menu bar.  Install the updates, if available.  Delete the 1099R, then re-enter.  If you are using TurboTax Online:

  1. Delete the 1099R you are working on.
  2. Log out of TurboTax
  3. Clear your browser cache and cookies
  4. Log back into TurboTax
  5. Re-enter the 1099R

The 8915-E will be used for penalty relief from early retirement plan distributions and include the option to spread the distribution income over 3 years.  This may be a good option if the distribution is pushing you into a higher marginal tax bracket.  You may end up paying less tax if you spread the distribution over the 3 years

The IRS released form 8915-E yesterday. when will it be incorporated into TurboTax?

There was an error in regards to my early withdrawal. It brings me through the whole thing had me paid for it then brought me back to the error and a TurboTax live person told me that it was due to 8915e not being available yet. I know you helped @baseball57. I know I can't restart it because I paid for it but I go back in the tools and I delete the 1099-r and we put it back in still the same error. It gave me the choice to mail it so I pushed to mail and the 8915 is on there but I did not send them in because I don't want to do no amendment. I attached a screenshot and this is what I'm getting when I delete this 1099r it will let me go through without the error. Please help me out if you can I appreciate it thank you. And me and the live representative went over it and she couldn't figure it out we recheck the entry nothing wrong

There are several posts on this thread indicating the Form 8915-E is available.

The Form 8915-E was available in the TurboTax online editions on 02/25/2021

The Form 8915-E was available as a software update for the TurboTax desktop editions on 02/26/2021

If you have already entered a form 1099-R, delete the form and re-enter manually.  Once the the form has been entered answer the follow-up questions indicating the withdrawal was due to Covid-19.  The TurboTax software will generate a Form 8915-E and include the form with the filed 2020 federal tax return.

Form 8915-E is currently available in both TurboTax Online and CD/Download versions.

Please make sure your program is up-to-date.  In TurboTax CD/Download, you will be prompted to download any updates available when you open the program.  You can also update the program while you have it open by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Online link in the black bar at the top of the page.
  2. Click on Check for Updates.
  3. TurboTax will download and install any updates available.  If there aren't any updates, you will receive the message "Your software is up to date."

TurboTax Online automatically updates the website when the forms become available.
